Home Invasion!

Now that you've seen the Monolith for my Tomb Kings, I wanted to show you the other piece of terrain that is demonstrated in the same video.  I just had to make these for my Lizard army!!

It is very fun to build, and once the foliage on it, the realism is pretty scary!

Another view from the filming of the video:

In addition to the monuments and houses, I created a video called Building Forts and Towers.  I used these in many of our games, and the walls were part of my display board at Adepticon!

And now for the house from the Home Sweet Home video.  Here's a few pictures that I shot as I was raising the roof!

The process of constructing the house is not very complex... this is the first of a series of posts:

Obviously, this is a very fun piece of terrain to paint!

Here's a few figures to give you a sense of size...

This is MY sky!

The dreaded Legions of Asharah return, claiming more territory and slaves for the Blood Star.

As with the previous Reaver jetbikes, I have added a few more bladevanes, and created a base to match the large display board.  The base is a combination of baked sculpey clay and a bit of plastic GW terrain.

This gave the base some weight, and kept the center of gravity low enough so that it would not tip over on rough terrain.  In addition, the bottom of the base was magnetized.  Having that magnet allowed me to carry all my figures around more easily, since each box had a piece of sheet metal at the bottom.

Another handy thing I like to do with my terrain is to use magnetic primer.  While there is quite the same kind of bond as with the sheet metal, it still maintains a decent hold.

These views show the freehand on the bike, and a touch on the base as well.  There was a mosaic tile theme on the display board, so I attempted to re-create that effect where possible on the bases too.

There are still many more bikes yet to come, so stay tuned!

Flight of the Valkyries

Most of you are familiar with the series of posts that I have been making for the Sukubus Studios Demonette blood bowl team.

Last year they had a second successful campaign for a Valkyrie team.  This will be just as amazing as that first effort!

Here's a post showing the unboxing of that team from their first campaign:

As you could see in that first post, nearly all of the figures were one piece, no matter how dynamic the poses.  That really amazed me.  It certainly made prepping them a lot easier!

This promises to be more of the same... with more great sculpts!

Here's a link to their website:

And now for a render, which is going to be incredibly close to the final result.

I will post a few links to Sukubus figures that I've already painted:

I'm guessing that nearly all the Valkyrie team sculpts will be of the one piece variety as well.

I'm really eager to get at these, since the Demonettes have been a blast to paint!

I might put them on ice bases like these:

You gotta have Bloodwieser Babes too!

Ah, the snap of the rubber glove.  Usually that gets any player running back out onto the pitch.  But in this case...

Each of the faces has enough detail to put some fun expressions on them:

Not and Ice Pick

This is a pretty interesting pose from Red Box Games.  The angle of his sword worked out just right so that I could place it on the base right by the snow pile.  I could reflect the snow on the left side of the blade, and the darker rocks on the right side.

Like many of the other figures done from this line, he has that similar fur cloak, which I also tried to impart color wise into the skin color.

To distinguish a few of the figures from each other, I added some red tattoos and war paint on them.

Obviously, many more are on the way!!

Monuments of Dust

Here's a fun piece of terrain that I just had to make for my Tomb Kings (Soon to become Empire of Dust) army.  It was created from Pink insulation foam.

Here's a glimpse of it's construction from the "Building Monuments" Painting Pyramid kickstarter video:

I think most of you know that my obsession for terrain is surpassed only by my love of basing, so that's why there were five different videos created.  It was not very difficult to create this, as you can see, and it has proven to be quite sturdy as well.

As much fun as it was to build, it was even more fun to paint!  I loved transferring some of the inscriptions from my Tomb Kings army board:

Now for a few miniatures to give you a sense of how big it is.

The Carrion bird on the right was one of my favorite conversions that I created for the army.

They played an important visual role on the display board, chasing down some hapless Empire soldiers:

Here's a post on the carrion birds:

Some of the other terrain videos involved constructing a house, a warp portal, fortresses, walls, rocks, hills and more!  Each one is about 100 minutes of foam cutting fun!! :-)

Shattered Earth

Today we have something from a new company.  Massive Awesome has created a number of highly detailed figures for their Shattered Earth universe.

Once again, the ease of prepping was another key for me.  When you see me trying out new miniature manufacturers on these pages, the appearance alone is not enough.  Not being tortured during said prepping phase is quite important to someone who does this on an industrial scale. ;-)

When you have those precise details, the painting phase gets a lot easier, and more fun.  I can focus more on subtle color transitions, and even rust/freehand effects if I wish.

Each of the Shattered Earth figures that you will see here came with a few different head options.  They were both so nice, it was difficult to choose in each case

This concept art gives you an idea of what some of the other poses will look like.  I thought these color schemes were pretty fun

Time to check out a few renders.  In a future post, I will be showing a combined image of concept art, render, and painted mini.

Big Dude

Here's a big lad from Red Box Games.  He is standing on a 40mm base, which makes him ogre sized.

As with all the other skin colors on the Red Box Games figures, I tried to get some nice subtle greens in the shadow areas.  The usual technique of mixing a warm, toned down green with some of the Flesh Wash did the trick.

Since this one was a bit bigger, I could have even more fun.  However, I still had to keep all of the skin colors matched to the dozens of previously painted minis.

This is the largest of the Red Box Games minis that I have worked on so far.  There are a few new metal horses that I'm going to be painting soon, so stay tuned!!!
