This is MY snow fort!

Look who's back, and playing King of the Hill!

I have been surprised at how many different poses there are of this type of figure.

I tried to import some seafoam green into the midtones here, since he had more of that white skin that many of the recent versions.

Most of the grays were created by mixing that seafoam green with a dark gray.  I also mixed blue and brown Reaper liner paints together, creating a fantastic dark grey base!  Depending on how much brown you put in, you get very different lighter colors... even when you only add white!

These types of grays are not 'dead' grays, but more interesting.  Cathy used to mix scorched brown and regal blue in a similar way.  When it was lightened, got very different results depending on how much blue or brown there was!

Of Darkness and Light

These remarkable renders are from the latest Raging Heroes campaign.

The concept art was truly amazing, but I almost thought there would be no way to translate those intricate designs into a three dimensional shape!

I knew that it would be possible for the ultra talented sculptors, and that faith is well placed!

Each of the characters maintains the incredible flavor of those drawings, and still has the hyper detail that I have seen on all the previous sculpts that I have painted.

There are so many 'layers' to sculpts such as this one... lots of flow and movement.  Intricacy and elegance.

And in true Raging Heroes form, there are options!  It's been this way since the beginning.  I have a number of original metal Vestal characters that had a fantastic array of head and arm options.  Those extra pieces made excellent conversion material for 'line troops' or even miniatures from other lines.

The close up of this face shows why I used a number of Raging Heroes figures for the various painting skin tone videos in my series.  I think I used at least two different Vestals and one Mantis Warrior!

The Legend of Jesse James

At long last, Legendary Jesse James from Wild West Exodus!

He's one nasty Hombre, with some amazing abilities.

The Legendary characters come with their own unique diorama style bases, and this one is probably my favorite!

Bursting through these shattered doors over the body of the recently departed, he makes quite an impressive sight!

He can now square off with the other characters of Legend... Sitting Bull, Carpathian, and ultimately WYATT!  Wait and see how that final showdown ends...

Deadly Aim

Tonight we have another Privateer Press Tharn infantry figure.

Siennas, browns, tans, etc., are the order of the day.

As always, they represent a nice contrast to the slate and sky blues of the snow!

La bataille de France

With a second Somua s35 complete, it's time to try out a set of comparison shots of the two camo schemes.

This second approach seems to be quite unique to the French vehicles.  I have not seen this anywhere else in my research.

The most unusual version of this horizontal striped pattern saw the top color (mostly the turret), as completely painted in sky blue!

While this could be quite effective on the ground against troops in trenches, airborne assaults on a tank column like this would be quite dangerous, I think!

From here, it is on to some Renault tanks, which are even smaller.

Searching for Red Gold!

Meet Crazy Louie, a well known prospector in the town of Wappelville.

Only the Enemy knows his true identity, but the townsfolk believe that he's been exposed to the Red Gold just a little too long!

With nothing more than his shovel and pick axe, he is constantly on the prowl for new veins of the mysterious red substance.

I am pretty sure that this figure is from Artizan Miniatures.  It's something I used for Deadlands years ago.

And, of course, he goes quite well with the Wild West Exodus RJ-1027 mining carts!

I am really looking forward to having this in our next WWX game.  Stay tuned for that battle report!!!

There you have it.  Now, where could Crazy Louie have gotten off to this time?  He's never around when the Holy Order are in town...

The Wings of Angels

For those of you who have been following the blog for a number of years, you have already seen the introduction of the Angels Solarus, a Blood Angels splinter chapter, which was painted a few years ago.

In addition to the horde of infantry created for this army, I also painted numerous vehicles and dreadnoughts.  I believe there were three Forgeworld speeders, two Baal Predators, six dreadnoughts, and five dreadnought drop pods.  Oh yeah, and a Stormraven!

Apparently this post was created but never actually posted!

The format might be a little crazy, but that's because I was using different settings at the time.

There are even more dreadnoughts which were part of this massive project!

The color transitions were especially challenging on the dreadnoughts!

There are also a number of Death Company vehicles, including a dreadnought drop pod.

There are individual posts on each of the dreadnoughts and drop pods...
