Did you spill something? Painting the Nurgle Decimator part one

Time to start painting the Decimator!  These images are all very early stages.  More pics in the coming days...

As I began, it was important (as usual) to get as much color onto every surface as quickly as possible


Since I was working rapidly, and with a large brush, I was able to do some wet into wet blending with my colors.


Here are some shots of the torso...




I usually don't show pictures like this.  My palette.  You can see all the colors that I had been using, and how a somewhat limited color palette created a lot of variety.
 

Back to the torso:


Here we see some lighter colors on the legs.  By this time, I was beginning to use some fluorescent colors.


I bring out the rust and stains a bit more:


The palette shows some of the light sky blues that I added to it.


Gee, I wonder what gave me the ideas to use those colors?  It couldn't have been Cathy's shirt, could it?

The Three Amigoes: Skeleton Command figures

Another busy day!  In the midst of priming Nurgle Decimators, I worked on this batch of skeletons for Armies on Parade.



I had been looking forward to these guys!  It took some doing to get them to rank up into the archer unit. :-)

What did I step in? A Nurgle Decimator for Games Day

Here's a new project for Games Day... a Nurgle Decimator!  Nurgle is always fun to paint, and even more fun to sculpt :-)

I scraped off a few of the standard symbols, and added lots of pustules and gooey stuff!


I had even more fun sculpting the ooze on the legs!  A little tricky, but fun!


Cathy suggested that I add some of the oxide paste to this, to really give it that rusted/corroded look.  It worked out very well, since it offered a texture very different from all the smooth things I was adding.  It will also work well with what I am doing for the base...


I had to do something brand new with the magnets.  I have experimented lately by using sheet metal with my magnets, as opposed to "magnet to magnet".  There are some advantages.  First, it is less expensive, second it means you won't have magnets attracting each other in confined spaces on a mini, and third, you don't have to worry about polarity issues!  This is actually number one for me, since it means I can add arms to this at any time, and I never have to worry about which way the magnets are facing!



Here I started to add some iky things to the weapons...


And meet my painting staff.  This is how we get so much done so quickly!

Taking Flight.. More images of the finished Storm Eagle

This was one of the parts I was dreading most... getting this massive hunk of resin "airborne"  Not only is the Storm Eagle very heavy, the majority of the weight is aft of the centerline, which made balancing it quite a challenge!  Setting the angle of the post was critical in that effort.

Yea!!!  It is finally done!!!  And Photobucket is working again!!!  Yea!!!

This is just the first set of images.  I took 41 photos, so there is a long way to go.  It will take a few more posts to get through them all.
