Prepared to destroy

This was another color test figure, exploring a few new mixes.  I made the base a long time ago as an example for something else, so it was quite handy that he fit on there so well!

It was a very bright Reaper color, called Mint Green.  It's one that I had used a few times last year, but it became set aside in the mayhem since Reapercon 2014 :-)

It makes a very interesting metal color, because it can really contrast in saturation, or color purity, from any sort of weathering or rust colors!

Turning the Paige...

One more Bombshell hits the blog, in the form of Dusty Paige

It was a great opportunity to try out yet another new foliage type which I got from Hangar 18 miniatures.  The yellow on these leaves is so similar to the colors we will be seeing here in just a few weeks!

I also thought that such a lighter color would act as a 'frame' to the figure.  Normally this is done with darker colors around a lighter central interest, but you know how much I like to reverse things!

Drawing Blood

This Ultraforge demon was featured in one of the later videos created for the Painting Pyramid Kickstarter.  The idea was that it would utilize many of the techniques learned from the 'earlier' videos, or those know as the core set.

That video was called "The Blood Demon", and man was it a challenge!  This was mostly due to the truncated painting time.  I believe there was about 88 minutes set aside for the painting, once you factored in opening and closing credits, discussion of brushes, the palette, etc.

It had been sitting around for quite a while, and I decided to add a few more touches to it.  I focused on some of the new things which I had learned in the time since this one was painted.  There were also some new materials which I didn't have available during filming, such as the Reaper clear paints.

Bombs for Victory!

Next up the Bombshell Babes list is Victoriana.  

I had found some interesting 1880's clothing images as color references, and I wanted to try out this light tan with dark trim outfit.  It seemed like those muted warm colors might work well with the iron and brass theme base!

Some of you might recall the "how to" post that I made when these were created.  It's in the basing section under the name "That really grinds my gears".

The Vampire Hunter

This very interesting Vampire Hunter figure gave me a chance to test out more of the ScaleColor paints from Scale 75.  The Birch and Orcish Dermis were mixed with a variety of my liner and clear paints, as well as my glaze colors, to see what might happen.

His coat was almost exclusively mixes of the Birch with my Vallejo Umber Shade, which consisted of a number of layers of semi-translucent paint.  The Umber shade tinted and darkened it to the point where the off white paint made a fantastic deep middle tone!

Likewise, I did that with the Orcish Dermis, and even added the Toxic Waste Green as a highlight to the reddish browns in the gloves and pants.

On a smaller scale...

Meet Irina the Sacred Blade from Scale 75 miniatures.  While they make some incredible large scale 75mm kits, there are also very nice 28mm versions.

This was very fun to paint, with lots of great details!!

A beacon in the dark...

Let's shine the light on another Bombshell Babe, this time Professor Karrick.

I couldn't resist doing the reddish glow, and then complimenting it with some blue/greens in the shadow areas and non-OSL midtone areas.

Some of you might recall the base, which was made along with a large group created by utilizing Burn In Designs leftover pieces.  These pieces were augmented by plasticard and other effects.
