Beelphegor from Battle Series

I was able to uncover some rare images today of a set of miniatures I did a while back.  I believe the line was called Battle Series, but I could be wrong, or the name has changed.

This character was called Beelphegor.

They were very nicely sculpted and cast, as you can see, and they were a blast to paint.  If anyone knows if they are still around, pass me the word!

Hildegard von Königsmark from Raging Heroes

Here's a fantastic mini from Raging Heroes!  She is Heldegard von Konigsmark, one of three sisters from the limited edition set.

As with all Raging Heroes figures, there is fantastic detail and lots of clean lines!  I was able to put a few different weapon arms on her to illustrate how many options you are given with these sets.

These weapons are not the original arms, but these figures are able to support many of the various options, which is great.

You can see more of the details on the back views. I even used some of the colored weathering powders to do some shading.  In this case, I used the blue and the red from Back 2 Base Ix.

Since this was painted in Altdorf color scheme, I put a little Karl Franz tribute on the base...

And here are some views to show how it compares scale wise to a GW figure (sorry about the different base heights).  They are the same scale, so they will work great with your Empire army!

Of course, I would love it to eventually see an entire army of these. :-)  For you fans of the Dark Elves, you will get your wish, as an upcoming Kickstarter will feature those!!

Painting with great Zeal...

Here's a selection of Skarrd minis from Dark Age.

They are Buzz Blades chosen by the Sister of Charity to become Mights and Zeals.  Might warriors have already proven to have natural resilience and strength, which is enhanced dramatically through various drugs and chemical compounds.

Zeals look miserable and lost when standing still, resembling a drug addict awaiting his next fix.  Slender and gaunt, these Zeals will do anything to please their mistress, Sister Charity.  She adopts them and augments them with biochemical and grafting apparatus to their muscles.

A loose cannon...

Here's the last of the batch of discovered images, ending with the old school psycannons.

Hot stuff...more shiny.

Time for some more shiny Grey Knights!  More reflections, too!  Here we have some old style incinerators.

The same philosophy was used to create the reflections as the previous batch.

And the Justicar...

Some shiny Grey Knights and tile floors...

It's always fun to run across some long lost images that were never even processed... getting lost in the shuffle among the many thousands which have been taken :-)  The shiny Grey Knights were always a favorite of mine, since it gave me the chance to do some reflections of my marble tile bases!

It can be a little tricky, but the end result is always rewarding!

Most of the work is in setting up the reflections, meaning that you have to create enough lights and shadows on the portions which don't reflect anything in order to get the necessary contrast.

Also, just like water reflections, it is important to remember that the reflection colors are always a bit darker and more greyed down that the original surface that you are reflecting.

More later!!!

A step by step: Dark Age Saint John's Bane

Here's the promised step by step images that I discovered the other day.  When you see this, you are looking at the very early development of the shaded basecoat technique.  This was done even before GW came out with their glazes.

Step 1 began with the lighter colors being applied first, as I do now.  This was a long time ago, so I will be pretty fuzzy on exact colors, so bear with me!

These darker glazes were applied the "old fashioned" way, with watered down paints.  Obviously I approach this differently now, doing more 'shading', and using multiple controlled layers of glazes from GW, Reaper and Vallejo.

The final darks are applied, and then you can see me starting to work back to the middle tones. The deep burgundy was done by mixing a blood red with regal blue, while the greens were snot green, shaded darker by mixing in a very dark blue.

The face is mostly finished, while I develop the white on the cloak.  I probably used a lot of bleached bone on that.  These days, I would probably use Dheneb stone and Vallejo khaki.

You can see the difference working in the middle tones makes, particularly on the greens.  I used some of the bleached bone to lighten them as well.  The brown on the leggings was lightened with some of the brighter greens.

Now the armor is getting more developed.  I can't remember what I used, probably GW terracotta.  These days I have Vallejo Carne Marron, probably mixing it with Vallejo Brown Rose.

The metals were done mostly with snakebite leather, lightened with space wolves grey and bleached bone.  I finished off the little gemstones on the leggings at this point.

So, it was time for final highlights, any last minute darks, and other fine details.  Then we had ourselves a Bane ready to go on a base!!!

Here's the original post with pictures of finished Banes, in case you didn't see that!
