It takes a Saint

OK, now you know what one of those bases was for!  This will be the warlord of the army... the Living Saint.

It is a conglomeration of bits and various minis.  The main figure is an old Rackham figure.  Then there are some Canoness bits, Blood Angel, and even an Empire Fire Wizard's sword!

If you have seen the recent post showing the big 60mm base with the small mural, you can see the connection between this character and the miniature.

I had intended for something a bit different, but time concerns meant that I had to work with what was at hand.  I found a bunch of pieces as I was looking for something else, and started piecing it together!

It also had to be a playable piece, since she is supposed to baby sit the Seraphim unit.  Hopefully, she will be able to absorb the inevitable strength 6 wounds coming their way.

I think it will still be fun to paint.  The actual Seraphim unit was also constructed today, so pics of that soon!

Me in miniature?

I never realized until I saw the pictures that this guy resembles me quite a bit :-)  I think it is one of my favorites from this first Highland Moss Guard Squad from Victoria Minatures.

It is very easy to create unique poses and interesting characters with the set.

You will have lots of fun with them too!  You can also mix and match parts from other sets as well.

He joins his buddy up on the front lines!!!

On solid ground

Just when you thought you were safe from basing!!

Here's the first set of bases for the Victoria Miniatures Highland Guard squad.

Again, the idea is that the Sisters are inside the Cathedral, and the meatshields are stuck outside in the much and the grime.

This was also the first set of bases where I tried out the new Secret Weapon shell casings.  They are on the base above and to the right, and the image below on the left.

I will do a specific post on that product later.

A few random GW bits on top of baked sculpey.

And for the whole set.

Most of the Highland Guard will get a variety of textures such as these.  One squad has a more specific theme, since they will be guarding the landing pad and other areas that require deck plating texture.

I added the color test mini for the last few images.  The figures are also complete, but I wanted to hold off an putting them on the bases, so that you could get a better view.

Can't wait to show you the whole squad on these bases!  Stay tuned.

Taking the field

These team shots are always difficult to set up, but if you get a decent shot, it's very cool!

31 miniatures in all!

Da Coach leads the team onto the field!!!

Some of these guys were pretty huge as well, as you can see in these images.

The Beast is ready to spread his disturbing presence.

Da Coach gets them away from the chalkboard and out into the swamp!

A bird's eye view.

Re-rolls!  Don't forget to move that turn marker...

It will be hard to forget, since he's so tall!!!

Check out that state of the art health center!!!

Even the refs want nothing to do with these guys.

I hope you enjoyed this project!  Quite an adventure from start to finish.

Get back on the Bus

Now you can see one of those recent bases with a mini on it!

This is one of my HQ choices, and it is a figure that has been sitting around here for at least 8 years.  I had no idea what it was until a few weeks ago.  I always assumed that it was a Necromunda figure or something like that.

When I read a bit about what he does with his stats, and the story of my army, I thought he would be a great fit.  He will have to be renamed, however. :-)

I needed something that would tie together the all male Imperial Guard contingent to the Sisters a bit more.  His somewhat wild looking appearance plus the fire he's toting did the trick!

Plus, I think he might be able to boost the Guard around him during the course of a game.

As far as the story goes, he is the one higher level element that has kept his original clan tartan.  Normally such minor concerns are set aside upon being inducted into the Sororitas.

He still carries a banner dedicated to the Living Saint (you already saw this graphic on the larger base yesterday).  I look forward to constructing the cathedral which will bear many more images of that character!

Base camp

I made a few more bases for the characters in the Sisters of Battle contingent in the army.

It's the usual sculpey and cork.  One of them is for an HQ character that I will be posting later tonight!

This sets the theme once again for the army... the interior floor of the cathedral will look a lot like this.

This mural will be painted on a larger scale for the cathedral walls

Frankenfigures can fight too!

Another color test figure for you!  The first of the lowly (but mean as snakes) conscripts.  Sure, most of them don't have armor.  Or helmets.  They can't shoot straight, either.  But what do they care!

As long as they have a pointy stick and some woad, they are good to go.

This is yet another part of the army story playing itself out.  They represent the lowest rung of this particular society... in which the Sororitas are the top.

There are a variety of bitz at use here.  Some GW pieces (Ork Stikbomb and lasgun) with a Victoria miniatures backpack.

I can never remember the name of the manufacturer of the Ancient Celt figures!  Wish I could...

Anyway, lots more of these guys on the way!!!
