No more wings...

This was the last of the Big Beastie videos that needed to be done.  I did a little color swatch exercise to begin...

And the dove right in to the Shaded Basecoat.

Lots of big brushes and colors on the palette.

Looks like he might sneeze!

Working the armor...

Must be time to glaze!

One wing glazed, one not.

A different set of shades on the other sides of the wings.

Glazing the armor.

And then there were two!

Dancing along.

Many thanks to Ultraforge for letting me use their big Demons!

Five times the fun...

Some shots of the bike squad as it continues to build.

Just one more to go!  Can't wait for that. :-)

Ground view...

Coming at you!

Each one slightly different.  A challenge to make them stand out from each other, but still possible.

Driving away...

Stay tuned for the grand finale.

Turning the pages of History

I have a few more of the Historical cavalry for you.

The unit continues to grow.

Unlike the fantasy armies I have done, and LOTR, etc., I am stuck with doing all the horses almost exactly the same.  Only a few select riders get a horse of a different color...

I try to do a few little things here and there to get some difference between them, however.

The thin blue line gets a little longer.

More on the way... putting this up to ten complete.

I am finding ways to do certain things a little faster.  Getting familiar with how they were supposed to look took more getting used to than normal.

As I have mentioned, I was hoping to do an entry for the Historicals category at the Crystal Brush.  While that usually means some sort of tank, I thought I should stick with something I have wanted to do since I was a kid, and that is paint some model ships!

Hoping to avoid the usual suspects, I was tempted to go French or Italian ships... such as the Richelieu.

The decision will have to be made to go with a waterline diorama style, or...

The more common floating ship on plaque.  I would prefer to do the 'in the water' approach.

Then, of course, I have to hope that it would be allowed as an entry!  One never knows...

It's winter somewhere...

Even though the temps are supposed to go back into the 90's again for next week, there must be snow around someplace!

If there is, you might find one of these snowy owls from Cool Mini!

As I did with all the other critters, a bit of a portrait to kick things off...

Shaded basecoat was particularly 'active' on this figure.  I was using a beat up brush to jam paint into recesses.  So vigorous that it shook the camera. :-)

More of the initial layers, with some hints at the markings to come.

As you work your way around the wings again and again, it starts to emerge as if you were carving it!

Lots of shape, where there was none before.

To get even more shape, time to glaze!!!

The glazing not only brings out the darker colors, but it tints areas such as the face, and allows you to create more subtle markings...

Such as these on the outer edges of the wings.

Lots of 'final details' and then there were a pair!

Flyin' away...

Who?

Bring it on...

One more bike... one more to go!

This time, the leader of the pack.

This was a very nice base, from DragonForge Designs.

Almost there!!!
