Colossal Paint job... another monster complete!

Photobucket

Sorry for that... it's been a very long day, and as they say... it ain't quite over yet.

Anyway, among other things, I managed to get the colossal painted!

Photobucket

I tried very hard to keep the colors consistent with the other constructs, such as the Stalkers, Necro Knights, Ushabti, Titan, and the Sphinxes.

Photobucket

You might also notice that the patterns on the 'cloth' are the same as the ones down in the Tomb level.  It was a lot easier to paint them on the miniature!

Photobucket

I will probably add some more tidbits after Games Day here and there.  A bit more freehand in some places.
Photobucket

Here is a "Colossal" view.  A "glory" shot :-)
Photobucket

The game was on while I was painting the big guy.  Baseball was also watching the game, and he seems very excited that Alexi has hit a 2 run bomb to extend the lead to 7 runs and put the Sox back into a 1st place tie..  However, Alexi appears to be less excited...

Completing the Ushabti guards

Photobucket

That word will be very nice to say over and over again... completion. :-)

There are a lot of items that are on the verge of completion as well, so there will be quite a blitz over the last few days.  It is going to be extremely difficult, but I will try as hard as I possibly can!

Photobucket

This gives me the four Bowshabti that I needed to stick between the pillars.

Photobucket

Photobucket

It also gives me the 4 man unit that I had originally planned when I first started making 2250 point lists for Adepticon...

Completing the sculpting of the Colossus

Photobucket

Today saw the final stages of the sculpting process on the Colossus.  As usual, there were all new challenges that had to be overcome with this project.

For those who saw the previous post, you know I was lamenting the fact that all the skulls and scarabs were located on the back of this piece where it was unlikely for anyone to see them!  So, I added a bunch of scarabs and skulls to the front...
Photobucket

The next new thing was the quiver of giant arrows.  I used polystyrene tubing, attaching some plasticard fins.  It was difficult to know just how much space there was going to be for these things!  I also had to be able to get a brush into all the crevices of the arrow bunch and the quiver!

Photobucket

Once that was done, it was time to break out the liquid green stuff.  I use this to smooth areas quickly, but also for sculpting purposes.  For instance, the feather texture on the plasticard fins went a lot faster by dry brushing some liquid green stuff on them!
Photobucket

Here I was finalizing the work on the giant bow.  For structural purposes, it is much less "flexed", instead appearing as if it has just been fired.  Yea 5+ to hit... maybe.  We shall see.
Photobucket

I tried to tie up all the loose ends, like putting designs on the gauntlets, working on the base, etc.  Now all I have to do is paint it!  That's all...

The horde of Wappellians grows to 200+ !! And it is appreciated.

I noticed that the legion of followers passed the 200 mark yesterday!  I guess that is not quite a legion, but it would certainly qualify as a small mob of zombies. :-)  Lessons on how to shamble properly to follow...

Anyway, it was time to break out the trusty green stuff on Tommy the Colossus (the Heirotitan is named Timmy, BTW).

Photobucket

Here you can see some green stuff used to create the feet, as well as details on the cape, etc.  I also created the giant bow...
Photobucket

Not to worry, his head was not shot off by Karl Franz's troops for target practice!  I did some carving on the sculpey head, and thgen added details with the green stuff, being sure to mix more yellow than blue so that it would actualy stick to the sculpey (which can be hard to do at times).

Photobucket

To try and make this closer to the fluff written about the colossus in the army book, I tried to add some skulls.  I sculpted a bunch of scarabs around them to hold them on and have them make a bit more sense.  Now it is appropriately "adorned with skulls", although nobody is ever going to see them on the back!  Bummer!  I brought out some Apoxy sculpt again to start building up the hands as well.

Photobucket

Thanks to all who come to the blog, comment and follow it on a daily basis.  I will try to keep it as interesting as I can!

Almost done! Final Nurgle decimator WIP images

Photobucket

OK folks!  We are almost there.  Just a few more hours and this bad boy will be ready for Games Day!  Some blending, more ooze, more weathering, and some other fine tuning...

This was something really different for me, which is saying something given my mad scientist approach to miniature painting :-)  More sculpting on the Colossus coming as well!

Scratch Sculpted Colossus for Armies on Parade

Photobucket

Well, here is one last big item that had yet to be started... my Giant Bow wielding Colossus!

I have been hearing a lot of good things lately about how effective this guy can be, so I thought I should give it a try.  There is already a place waiting for him on the display board on the viewer's right hand side.  It should balance out the Heirotitan very nicely! :-)

This started out exactly as all my scratch sculpted Big Guys.. with a wire armature.  I then begin to cover this armature in tin foil, which does a few things.  It makes it stronger, as the tin foil condenses when you sculpt on top of it, and it makes it lighter.  You also save on sculpting material and time!

Photobucket

Here I continue to work out the muscles and such with the tin fil:
Photobucket

Once I have the tin foil built up, I start to lay over strips of Apoxy Sculpt, making sure to scrunch down the tin foil at the same time.
Photobucket

I added a sculpey head that was supposed to be part of some other statuary, as well as a polystyerene tube for a quiver.
Photobucket

Most of you will probably think of this as a gigantic Ushabti.  That is exactly the point.  This was done for a few reasons.  First, I really like the design, and it fits right in with my story.  Second, people who look at my scratch sculpted stuff think it is a Forgeworld piece, or something converted from a GW monster kit.  Worse yet, they believe it is a toy that was converted!  Even my Titan was getting that response, since there are so many Egyptian themed toys out there.

My hope was the people would take notice that unless I have some magic beans, a 28mm Ushabiti miniature did not grow to this size. :-)

A good solid (squishy) base...

Photobucket

With the Decimator nearing completion, it was time to get to the base.  I tired to create a bit of a theme with this.  Previously, I had only tried to use Space Marine parts, as opposed to an entire casualty.

Here is the sculpting process...

Now it's time to paint this bad boy...
Photobucket

Photobucket

Gotta have that ooze!  I purposely chose a Sanguinary Guard figure, since the Gold armor (which should never tarnish) is quite "soiled" by the rot all around it, emphasising how nasty that icky stuff is. :-)

Photobucket

Adding the slime was very fun!
