The Story in Statues

It just occurred to me that I never snapped any images of the statues that I created for the Adepticon tournament army!

As usual, they served multiple purposes.  First, they were objective markers for the army.

Second, and more importantly, they told the story of the army!

If you read the concept of the fluff I previewed a while back, this was originally a Bronze Age society with no modern weapons at all.

To turn the tide against repeated Ork invasions, the Inquisition had sent troops disguised as locals.  Eventually, more modern weaponry was required, and the Inquisition revealed itself to a select few.

These were trained in the ways of more technologically based warfare, with increasingly improved weaponry and firepower.

I used a variety of minis... some Celtos for the most ancient versions, followed by some Dark Age and even Excalibur figures.

For the final evolution, I chose a Necromunda figure.  Clan Escher, I believe.

All in all, they made very fun objective markers, and helped to tell the story of the army.  I never did have time to write up a full history.  Hopefully some day!

Since there was not enough time to paint all the murals inside the cathedral as I originally intended, this was the next best thing.

The pedestals were fairly simple, but the paint pulled out more details, and gave them a little more depth.  Once they were inside the Cathedral itself, they were just fine.

It was important that they match the columns and other interior details.  They were also magnetized, which meant I could simply keep them with the board, instead of constantly packing and unpacking them!

Cleansing Fire: Sisters of the Raven

You have seen many permutations of the RAV 6 x 6 from Secret Weapon Miniatures... and here is yet another.

Utilizing the converted heavy flamer turret from the previous post where it was used as a Hellhound, I turned it into an Immolator tank.

The extra armor skirts are magnetized, making it an ideal platform for this special Sisters of Battle transport.

It is quite believable that 5 Celetians, Dominions or Retributors could be hanging out inside one of these with their flame throwing goodness!

Once again, the flexibility of this vehicle means more cost savings, but sacrificing none of the good looks!

But wait... there's more!  I painted a twin-linked heavy bolter option.  Certainly just as convincing.

That weapon mount is just as fun to paint as all the rest.

I used the same converted turret to place that weapon option as in the previous post.

Again, there are a ton of weapon options and combinations... more than I could ever show here!

Striped shiny pants

Time again for some more Celt conversions!  They really did make fantastic conscripts, especially in the context of the Highland Guard.

It did not take many bits at all to turn them into exactly what I needed.

In addition, there was plenty of 'canvas' to paint the blue woad effect!

One more batch, and then it's time for the Immolator.

A hell of a tank...

At long last, I have painted that conversion bit for the Secret Weapon RAV 6 x 6 which you saw in earlier posts.

In this case, it would be the equivalent of a Hellhound, Devil Dog, etc.

If you recall, all I had to do was razor saw the rear section from the turret and magnetize the container bit.  It fit perfectly!  Of course, you could use scale barrels (which Secret Weapon makes!) or make you own from polystyrene tubing.

When you combine this bit with the heavy flamer option, it certainly gives the impression of the flame and chem spitting tanks of Imperial Guard fame.  Yes, I am still refusing to use the 'new' name. :-)

Another nice view of that bit.  I have some freehand that I will apply to it, but I want to get me numbering scheme more locked in before that happens.

This shows you how easy it is to switch out!

And voila!  A whole new tank.  It could be a Chimera, even a Leman Russ if you want (especially if you make something like the side skirts that I made for the Exorcist).

I love how easy it is to change the hull weapon, as well as the turret.

You don't have to add something like this to the back of the turret, but it was pretty simple, and it added so much!

I still do not call the beloved Highlanders by the new name...

Should you be displeased by a certain new vehicle that begins with the letter "T", you could certainly think about using the RAV 6 x 6 from Secret Weapon.

Next, I will show the Immolator version!  Hot stuff coming from the Sisters!

The original conscripts

I snapped a few series of pictures of the conversions that I used as conscripts for the Adepticon army.  I can't remember if these are from Wargames Factory or Warord Games... but the original minis were the Ancient Celts.

By adding a few spare Imperial Guard bits (not calling them by the 'new' name), they instantly became more of a 40k creation.

I gave them the striped pants to create the impression that they were not quite worthy of the tartans of their loftier battle brothers.

They still had their battle woad, however!

Another Squad, another Tartan

I had some fun painting this squad, another unit from Victoria's Highland Guard.

There was a helping hand from Secret Weapon, with one of their very fine set of bases from their sci-fi themes.  I also added some of the shell casings, which I really love!  You can see a few of them on the bases.

I wanted to try out this more unusual white tartan that I had discovered during an extensive internet search.  This is also the only unit with red spats!

Arrayed with a RAV 6 x 6 with another weapon option.  Definitely some long range firepower!

Another brave sergeant leads the way...

Seeing double

There are a host of different weapon options that come with the RAV 6 x 6.  I have a few of them here, starting with the Hydra option as well as the classic multilaser Chimera.

There is also a heavy flamer option (which you will see later) as well as the Plasma cannon.

The weapons themselves are metal.  I have pinned mine, but magnetizing is also possible.

I all, I think there are ten different options, including heavy bolter, demolisher cannon, etc.

The Victoria Miniatures Highland Guard standing around them are perfectly GW sized, so the scale works well also!

When you hear these pipes, you get a wee bit of plasma to the face!
