Converted Death Cult Assassins for Adepticon

Here's another batch of Death Cult Assassins that I had to create for the tournament Demonhunter army.  I used Dark Eldar wyches, altering the weapons and giving them cloaks, etc.  They certainly kill a lot of things when they get in contact with them, no matter what they might be.  Necrons, Dark Eldar critters, Space Wolves, you name it :-)

When combined with the Arco flagellants, crusaders and a wild card 'demonhost', things got intersting!  Mass amounts of missile fire directed at them made them less happy, though.

I have a few WIP images so you could check out the process...

Death Cult Assassin Conversions for Adepticon

As I have mentioned a few times, the one aspect of the new Grey Knights codex I liked was the mass use of assassins!  Since I did not get to field my Dark Eldar army, I thought it might be fun to still incorporate some of my extra wyche minis.  When I compared the old DCA minis with the wyches, there was not a lot of difference in proportions or pose!

I chopped off as many Dark Eldar bits as possible, and gave them cloaks.  These cloaks were done with a thin layer of green stuff on top of a sheet of tin foil.  You have to be careful not to crinkle the tin foil, but it helps maintain its shape as the green stuff cures, and provides extra strength later on.  The WIP images give you a pretty good idea of what was done.

More Special conversions and builds for Adepticon Grey Knights

As I have mentioned a few times, I did about 14 or 15 heavily converted figures for the Grey Knight army I brought to Adepticon.  Here is Inquisitor Reva Garanov:

Photobucket

He was made from a Space Wolves space marine, using plasticard, green stuff, brown stuff, and even sculpey pieces, such as the scratch sculpted Psycannon.

You have already seen the Psykers, but here were a few old minis I had half finished prior to the event that I completed:

Like these two poor acolytes, who never got to fire their plasma guns due to dying from missile launchers and splinter cannons :-(

These two crusaders were quite frustrating to opponents, as I kept using them as a mobile 3+ cover save...

Adepticon Warhammer Fantasy tournament images... a crazy day!

OK folks!  Time for those Day two images I promised!

Photobucket

The first round was against an ogre army.  The task was to control the big platic sheet in the center of the board.  So, the ogres begin to advance onto the jungle ice sheet...

Photobucket

The Terradons take flight!
Photobucket

Marching towards the great Ice Sheet...
Photobucket

Babo prepares to meet his foe, minus the Temple Guard, who were blown away by a miscast despite an active Throne of Vines spell.  This would happen on the next 2 turns as well.
Photobucket

Big mess on the ice.
Photobucket

The mess just gets worse, and some rules questions ensue.  Things go bad, and out comes the Zamboni...
Photobucket

We move on to round two against the High Elves!  Tons of shooting and swordmasters on their side.
Here is the initial advance:
Photobucket

This goes back to the initial deployments in the deeper bu narrower deployment areas...
Photobucket

The saurus cavalry (who are not stupid for the first time all day), charge forward, which may have been kinda stupid :-)
Photobucket

A crazy challenge continues for 3 turns with a skink chief and a High Elf for 3 rounds, which holds up the Lizard advance.  It was an epic purse fight of Prada vs Gucci.
Photobucket

Round three was a very odd battle with beastmen.  Most of my critical characters, such as Babo, decided to be fashionably late! So many strange things happened, but the lizards ultimately won by a single point!

Here we are chasing the beastmen from our favorite spawning pool...
Photobucket

Spawning pool secured!
Photobucket

Round four was even crazier.  Here we see the Dark Elves and lizards deployed:
Photobucket

The host of Babo attempts to swing the hammer on the left flank!
Photobucket

And now for Indisputable Visual Evidence of the Cold Ones going stupid...
Photobucket

That only happened in every single freakin' game.  That left Babo to try and Dweller those Pointy eared fools into oblivion...
Photobucket

Unfortunately, there are just too many guys with those spears.
Photobucket

Despite his heroic efforts, Babo cannot Dweller enough of the ape elves, and their dastardly monsters survive all the poison in Lustria to wipe out the Temple Guard, leaving Babo to fend for himself...
Photobucket

I guess it is an artifact of the more complex and confusing game system, but it felt like each game I played in the WFB tourney was using a different set of rules.  I got this idea speaking to the folks I was playing in the later Saturday games, and also from the team tournament on Sunday.  By contrast, I felt like I played four 40k games using 1 rules set.  There really are so many crazy things that can happen in a Fantasy game!

All it takes is one failed panic test and Boom!  I kept forgetting in 40k yo don't have any of that.  I promise that next year I will not declare charges at the start of my 40k turns, and that I won't call the close combat phase in WFB the assault phase! :-)

Once more, many thanks to Alex and all those who made this event possible!!!!!

Adepticon Day Three: Civil War Dwarv(f)s!!!

All right!  Adepticon has officially ended, and we have tried to start the recovery process.  Marty and I completed our three games.  Here is a bit of a visual chronicle of the days events:

The Wretched Alliance of Appomattox

Photobucket

The old General rode slowly into the camp, his shoulders stooped, sad eyes seeming bear all the cares of the world.

As he approached the gathered troops, he could scarcely look into their eyes. The group began to surround the figure and his ghostly white horse. With great reverence, they reached out to touch the noble warbeast.

They were hardly men. They seemed more like the scarecrows of the fields through which they seemed to be endlessly marching, day after day, with a maelstrom always at their heels each step of the way. Those steps made all the more difficult as they were harassed by the strange creatures, skin covered in fur, and savage bucked teeth.

The General could see the gaunt faces of his weary men, eyes sunken, their clothes in tattered rags. Some of them were little more than boys.

"Tell us where to go, Uncle Robert!" shouted some. "Yes, Marse Robert", when do we fight them Yanks again!?" grew the chorus.

At the sound of his men, the exhausted figure rose in the stirrups of his white steed, chest high, eyes glowing but for a fleeting moment with the fire that his army had seen many times before, at Fredericksburg, Chancelorsville, Second Manassas, and a hundred other battles.

He addressed his men for the first time in his quiet, yet reassuring voice. "Men, you would have made as good of citizens as you have soldiers". He stopped, gathered himself, and then continued after a breath, "But once again, I ask you to do the impossible."

The men were puzzled, but would not dare to question their leader. What could he possibly mean?

"You have fought bravely, and you have made your country proud," spoke the General once more. "We have all seen the beasts that lurk in the shadows, the terrors that strike at our cities and farms alike. I am here to tell you that our former countrymen have experienced the same horrors.

"Alone, neither of us can overcome this ravaging horde." Now the old man looked ten years his senior, as he said, "I have gone to meet with General Grant, and the deed has been done. We shall once again join with our cousins and brothers in Blue."

"Never!!" Shouted his host of butternut and grey. "We can whip 'em, and the Damn Yankees too!" The throng grew more vociferous, protesting this development.

The General raised his gloved hand, and in his quiet voice spoke again. "The agreement has been signed, my men. We fight alongside them once again..."

The first game was interesting, with us paired up against a Demon/Ogre army.  This is a shot from early in the game

Advance!

Watching Yanks die.  Otherwise known in military parlance as Acceptable Tactical Losses.

Our second game was... more Demons!  And Chaos warriors.

It seemed like we were fighting out west somewhere, like New Mexico!
Photobucket

More Demons arrive.  I blame Marty!
Photobucket

Once again, watching more Yankees bit the dust...
Photobucket

Go Get them wagons, JEB!

The Ultimate game of the day was Round Three, with Mr. Domus and Mr. McClure.  A real blast, since we could be in character, and they also joined in!  Tom was a non-aligned dwarf, so he became the British contingent.  I told him that if he did not want to wear brulap underpants for the rest of his life, he had better help me break that Yankee blockade.  He obliged by shooting entirely at Marty for the first 2 turns!

Looking for allies...

We smell tea and crumpets in the British camp:

Finally, a campfire to cook our bacon and mash... Bobby Lee uses a big fireball to toast some trees.
Photobucket

The big twigs run away!  Then they prove (again) that folks from the same species just can't get along when the forest eats them all...
Photobucket

Once again, it is time to collet some firewood to boil up some earl grey...
Photobucket

Tea Time at last...

Marty and Me...

Once again, I would like to pas along a lot of thanks to Scott Tipsword who ran the event, and Alex as well for all their hard work!!
