The way to really fly

Some of you will probably recognize these ladies!  Two of them were used as subjects for painting videos.

The figure on the right with the Tiger eyes on the wings was a test figure for the freehand video.  I thought it would make a good subject, since I could put freehand on the base, the wings, the arms,etc.

The one on the left was used for the Shades of Grey video.  Again, there were many types of surfaces that would allow for the placing of various gray tones everywhere.  The idea was to show how you could do a lot more with 'simple' gray.

I had been saving these figures for many years to serve as Seraphim in my Sisters of Battle army.  Since Raging Heroes is going to be doing something amazing in that department, I thought it would be OK to use them for the kickstarter.

The first 3 figures you have seen are part of the current Urban Mammoth range.  All part of the Urban Warfare system.  Amazing stuff!

This figure on the right was a combo test for shades of gray, snow bases, and weathering.  A test subject for 3 videos...

Those are not available any more.  I liked them a lot.  The wings have a very different feel, and the armor is about as close to a space marine as you can get on a lady. :-)

She looks rough and tumble as well!

Ever since I painted the first banner in the Dark elf scheme, I was looking forward to trying out the Drow scheme, and a new design on the banner.

This design was a fun, simple version.  Right to the point... dark evil tower back lit by an overly large moon!  Yea!

Here's another set of Kabal warriors around the second objective marker.

I can't wait to have the subsequent 'in progress' Kabal warriors ready to go.

Originally, the army was supposed to have a lot more, but I put in a Raider for the Grotesques.  In the few test games I did, the high toughness was not enough to get anywhere on the board.

This was one of my favorites.  I had lots of fun with him!

This was only intended as a small squad that would set up around an objective... "holding and hiding".  It did not work out that way, since the lack of terrain and huge amounts of fliers pretty much wiped out that possibility!

That's one reason I wanted to increase the size of this squad as much as possible.  Besides, I need more to fit into the Tantalus!!!

Care to duel?

Watch out for these flying blades of doom!  After painting the champion Blood Vestal in the Dark Elf color scheme, I could not resist painting it in the Drow scheme.

The darker skin was really nice against the gold/bronze colored armor, creating a nice value contrast.

I am painting the banner bearer in this color as well, so I can try to have a command group!

Kabal warriors

Here we have some group shots of the Kabal Squad.  I have them positioned around one of the three objective markers that I made for Adepticon.

You can see that the colors and markings match the vehicles and the Grotesques.  As I have mentioned before, this matching of colors across an entire army was something new to my own armies!

The bases are the same mixture of destroyed vehicle bits and chunks of ruined buildings.

You can also see that there is a mixture of "old and new" in this group.  Some of them are a blending of ancient Kabal minis from 20 years ago with the newer kits.  Those were very fun!

That also extended the amount of figures I could get from each kit.  I have at least a dozen more Kabal warriors being painted that are the same mix of old and new.

Next up, the troops around a second objective marker!

A very active coven

Today we have some Sci-fi Blood Vestals from Raging Heroes that I used as Wyches for my Dark Eldar army.

Obviously, the poses are very dynamic.  It made basing them a lot of fun!

You have seen the other bases in the army, so they had to match as well.  It was a combination of vehicle parts from the Space marine army they were chopping up, and pieces of the city which was being overrun.

Here are a few shots with less miniatures, breaking down the group into the size of the actual squads.

I had these riding in Venoms, with a role as vehicle hunters.  It actually worked out that way a few times.  They were worthless in close combat fighting anything besides Guardsmen, however.  Space Marines just shrugged it off...

I could not resist the temptation to paint the tattoos!  That was a lot of fun.

Matching colors blind

This set of images shows the figure that was just painted next to one of the figures painted for the instructional videos.  The one on the left was in a case where I couldn't see it.

The idea was to see how closely I could match the colors.  The hair was the easiest, since I remembered exactly what I had used.  The armor was the same process as well.

The skin was the trickiest part.  I had a general idea what I had done, but I had to try out some new mixes.  

I have one more on the way, so it will be very interesting to see all 3 of them together!
