More Special conversions and builds for Adepticon Grey Knights

As I have mentioned a few times, I did about 14 or 15 heavily converted figures for the Grey Knight army I brought to Adepticon.  Here is Inquisitor Reva Garanov:

He was made from a Space Wolves space marine, using plasticard, green stuff, brown stuff, and even sculpey pieces, such as the scratch sculpted Psycannon.

You have already seen the Psykers, but here were a few old minis I had half finished prior to the event that I completed:

Like these two poor acolytes, who never got to fire their plasma guns due to dying from missile launchers and splinter cannons :-(

These two crusaders were quite frustrating to opponents, as I kept using them as a mobile 3+ cover save...

Scratch Sculpted Seraphim and Sisters

This was a bit of an exotic project.  I was given some concept drawings (shown below), and instructed to make sculpted Sisters and Seraphim.  The current metal ones are OK in a pinch, but just don't really have the "wow".

So, here are some of them, sculpted and painted...

This was my test figure for the regular sisters:

This shot shoes the base pretty well:

Should they ever get a real codex not written by a certain individual, I will have to sculpt many more for myself!

Freebooter Miniatures, some nice ladies... and different fleshtones

For today we have a break from GW minis altogether :-)  This set is from the Freebooter range, sculpted by Werner Klocke, a favorite of mine.  I tried to do some fun fleshtones on these ladies.

Eldar Wave Serpent with extensive freehand and extra weapons

Photobucket

This is probably the most extensive freehand on a vehicle in terms of overall coverage for me.  It was a massive challenge, but also very fun!  The spacescape section was very close to my heart, since I used to paint spacescapes for a living.

The "Asurmen" section was not so fun to paint, as I had to carry that angular pattern across very organic curved surfaces, which did tricks on the eye to make it seem as if the angles wree going the wrong way!

Here is a view of the back door freehand...

And this view shows all the various weapons.  Magnetizing them was not at all like magnetizing bulky Space Marine weapons!  These skinny yet out of balance weapons needed big magnets, but had vey small areas for placement.  I have since learned some things which will make this process a bit easier. :-)

Gamezone Dark Elf Crossbowmen

After seeing a few Dark Elf armies in the tournament room over the weekend, it got me thinking about these Gamezone versions...

Privateer Prees: Hordes Typhon, Legion of Everblight

One of the nifty items I found in my bag of swag from Adepticon was a Legion of Everblight starter box!  Made the long wait worthwhile. :-)

I am glad that those are not metal, like this big guy was!  The base was made with Apoxy sculpt.  I am going to be painting mine much different than the usual colors, since I have had my fill of white skin painting this army.

Here we go:

Sculpted Crypt/Graveyard bases

Now this is something very different from the last week's worth of posts!

This is, however, a huge part of every army that I create... the bases.  It sets the theme in such a powerful way.  The more elaborate you go with your bases, the more intricate story that you weave.  Obviously, this set has a pretty specific theme!

These bases were created with backed sculpey clay which was carved, along with Green stuff and Apoxy sculpt.  Some more painted images:

Basing can be a lot of fun, and not just a necessary evil :-)  They can be a lots of fun to paint just by themselves!  This set of bases was designed to be quite interchangeable, so that various pieces could be used in combination, or all by themselves.
