It's your move, part 2...

Tonight we have the other figures which I painted from that Revelation Miniatures chess set.  First, the  King.

And then the Rook.

It would be interesting to paint these guys today, with all the techniques I have learned since I first painted these figures.  So much potential for the powders here...

Crash Landing

This base was fashioned in honor of the "crashed plane" sculpture that the city, in its infinite wisdom, placed right in front of the main bus/train terminal that leads into Midway Airport.

I am not sure what it was supposed to be, but it is made of polished steel of some kind, and looks just like a plane has crashed, with the tail sticking up out of the ground.

So, I could not resist making one as a base for the Archon's Venom!

It was a very fun base to make, and must be the most painting I have ever had to do on a 60mm base!

I continued the same "Broken Blade" color scheme and freehand as I have done on the smaller bases.

I also started to slap some colors on the Archon's venom.  Yes, I realize that I will never be able to hide this thing behind cover, but it doesn't seem to matter much with the new rule set anyway...

I figured that I would just have myself some fun with the bases instead! :-)

Send in the Gnolls, part 2

OK!  Here are the rest of those furry guys!!

As I mentioned in the other post, this is a mix of Reaper and other companies...

This archer was very fun!

It's your move...

As I checked out the Loka Kickstarter project (if that's the right name) chess set from the Mantic folks, I began to recall this set from Revelation Miniatures.

It was a full chess set.  The miniatures were 30mm metal.  I painted a few of them, but I do have the full set prepped.  It's been waiting for years to be painted, since that was the time of the great change over to GW stuff.

I wish I could have gotten all four of the Kickstarter chess sets, as they looked like they could be used for many other purposes as well.

This guy was the Bishop.

This image has the Bishop, the Rook, and the King.  I will post some pics of those guys later.

Send in the gnolls! Part 1

Here's a batch of figures I painted back in the day... probably 2006.  Most of these are Reaper figures, or at least I am pretty sure about that!

It was a fun set of colors to work with.  I believe that muted purples were mixed into the greys, which allowed me to use the yellowish colors for the hair as a contrast.

Looking at these, it's interesting to see how much things have changed in my techniques since then.  To the average viewer there would be negligible difference, if any at all.

I also liked these minis, even though they are probably not the most popular. :-)

This is the whole group.  The rest are coming soon!

Don't be such a pain... the Chronos is DONE!

Yea!  The first 'big' piece of the army is actually finished!  There is more I would have liked to do, but tine's a wastin', and this will have to do for now.

The carapace shell was a great opportunity to test out the freehand on a larger scale.  Since I will be doing this on all the vehicles, it would be nice to get an idea of how it will look on something bigger than a regular infantry sized mini!

I had lots of fun using the fluorescents to create the noxious poisons dripping off the metal tentacles and the snout/stinger.  In some ways, this was like painting a giant, armored floating Grotesque.

I also enjoyed making the glowing stuff on the spirit siphon.

For kicks, I had some of the poison dripping off the tentacles onto the blasted concrete...

So, with this test complete, I can try out one of the Venoms now!  Stay tuned!

The coven complete... first batch of Raging Heroes Wyches

Yea!  First Wyche squad finished!!  The Sci fi Vestals from Raging Heroes come in batches of five, such as this.  There are all sorts of weapon types to choose from.

Here's a few shots taken as I was painting the last few members of the squad...
