"Mammoth" project

Photobucket

Just like the title says, this was a MAMMOTH project.  It was my first Forgeworld piece, which was a bit like learning to juggle using chainsaws, hydrogen bombs and napalm.  There are so many pictures for this piece, it will take at least 2 or 3 posts to get them all in.  I even found some pictures of me using a power drill to screw this sucker into the wooden base.  That was pretty insane, since the resin began to melt, and we could smell the smoke drifting around the room.  Wonderful!

I had never done anything with resin before, so I didn't know that much about the "anomalies" in casting, and I underestimated how nasty the mould release would be.

Here are a variety of views showing the mammoth and the extra figures:

World Eaters Raptors

The Raptors photos have been collected, so here they are!  It was a bit odd to be putting the heavy metal jump packs onto plastic minis.  They could have been top heavy, but the center of gravity was not too bad.

Don't be hasty! Lord of the Rings Treebeard

This was still a metal kit back when I painted it, so it was more of a challenge to get this put together.  I did add some extra branches and leaves, however.

I also used some Woodland Scenics tree materials on those very fine branches on the top.  That product is pretty expensive, but it looks exactly like trees, at a perfect scale.  It also is relatively easy to work with.

Army Photos of the World Eaters

While I don't have pictures of all the vehicles with these guys, I did run across some big pictures with all the infantry together :-)  You have seen lots of posts of thie Tainted World Eaters army, and more are to come.  I reworked the pictures of the Raptors squad, and those will go up tomorrow.

It's not very easy to set up these shots, since you want to feature everything all at once!  Alas, some units just have to be a backdrop for whatever primary units that you really want folks to see.  Getting pictures of them in their "natural environment" is satisfying, however.

Thousand Sons squad with display base (Games Day 2009)

Here is a Thousand Sons squad that I created for Games Day a few years ago.  My primary goal with this project was to see what I could do in terms of a display base.

I knew I wanted to have the marble filled with daemon faces, which would also be carried onto the base of every miniature.  I was reminded of this when I started painting the floors and bases of my new Tomb Kings army.  You also saw some designs similar to this painted on the 72mm mounted Chaos Knight.

This is not a very easy design to carry across large surfaces, as I discovered!  To get enough variation in the faces becomes more  and more trying the bigger the space you need to cover.

Here is the display base minus the minis.  You can see the daemon faces a bit better with the unobstructed view.
