Storm of Magic cockatrice

I painted this mini for a contest last summer, not long after the miniature was released.  I attempted to give it as much of a lizardman theme as I could, especially with the base.  I did a lot of searching around on the web for cockatrice images, and was led to many Mayan sites.

There were some that had a more muted set of colors, but the majority had the wild scheme that you see here.  Besides, it did fit my very colorful army quite well!

It was not always easy to get all of the transitions to go as desired, given the extreme contrast of the colors.  The mini was a fun challenge, however!

Interview on the Ohiohammer podcast today

Well, today the good folks at Ohiohammer put up Episode 14 of their podcast, which included some neat stuff.  It also included an interview I had done with them a while back.  Since then, I had only heard a 5 minute version edited down for the Adeotpticon site. 

This version was the entire conversation, which got pretty wild towards the end! It is always a bit unusual to hear a recording of your own voice.

There was certainly a wide range of topcis covered during that call.

More images of Terradons

Here are some images of my converted terradons.  The terradons themselves are old I-Kore minis from the VOID range.  The guys riding them were a lot like Catachans (called Viridians). 

All it took was to add some skinks to to top, and a flock of terradons is born!  I painted each one a different color justfor fun, but I did get a lot of questions as to why I did so.  Not long after the movie Avatar was released, and each of the flying creatures in that movie were a different color!

Chameleon skinks

Along the same lines as the skirmishing trays for the terradons, I made a few for my Chameleon skinks.

With the minis required to be spaced a half inch from each other, these trtays do allow for more bitz and decorative elements.  This was one of my first experiments.  I will also be posting images of the slamander trays, and an even large version of the terradon tray.

And one little guy that is actually a converted plastic skink:


I took a blowpipe skink, chopped off the tail, added the googly eyes, and then the poison frogs.  Add a curly tail and you are ready to go!

Terradons are one of my favorite units in the lizard army.  I love the speed, the drop rocks, and hiding a nasty skink chief in that unit.  Gotta love a skink who has multiple ST6 attacks at his regular initiative!  That's what Stikki Wikkit is doing in this unit.

I made the movement trays for Rampage last year (the other unit had 5 terradons).  When I heard about the new formations required in 8th edition, I thought I needed to make these.  As it turns out, the movement requirements are not really conducive to these trays, but they did make it a lot easier to move the skirmishers around quickly!









They were very fun to make, though.  Here is an image of another movement tray in progress.  As usual, broken bits of sculpey and other fun bits. :-)  The magnetized slots hold them in there really tight, which is good, considering how much they get moved around.

Converting a plastic saurus into the Great and Mighty Chakax

On this fine morning after the Super Bowl, I thought I would begin the day posting some images of my custom made Chakax.

Since I was not very sure if this character would be a viable (or wise) points investment, I did not want to shell out a lots of $$$$ only to find ot that he was better in theory than in practice.  I also had a ton of extra plastic saurus which I was probably never going to use.

I figured I would have some fun and try to make myself a Chakax.  Here is a WIP image that shows all the plastic bits, as well as the green stuff and Brown stuff used to sculpt the headdress and weapon.  The white sections are baked sculpey.

I tried this guy out in few games against 7th edition demons and also Karl Franz with that 100 point "I destroy your whole army without even rolling a dice weapon." 

It was very gratifying to see Chakax point to that particular item and say, " Hey, that's a pretty nice croquet mallet you got there, why don't you bring that over here so I can get a closer look at it... UUGH!!"  "Did that hurt?  It looked like it did.  You should have someone look at that."

Heavily converted Carnosaur (Adepticon Rogue Demon winner)

This was a very fun piece that I did a few years ago.  Someone donated a pair of old plastic dragon wings for the project, so I was off on my quest to make Loq-Qar the Terrible!

The wings were not very difficult to secure, but I did have to do a lot of sculpting around the joints to make it look cohesive and provide strength.  Liquid green stuff could have hastened the latter parts of  this process, however. 

Anyway, I was itching to do a reflected lava effect, so I went wild on this guy.  At that time I was creating a saurus "immune to psyche" spawn (the old book, obviously), and they were going to be the exact same color scheme as this.

The headdress took a lot more time to create than the wings.  I cut out some pieces of plasticard and added glyphs to it, as well as some saurus banner decorations.
