Blood Angel character finished!

OK!  Here are the finished pics.  As I mentioned in the step by step post, this was an unusual piece in terms of the armor pattern.  The weapon was also something I had not seen before.  Sort of par for the course on Pre Heresy :-)

The base is another DragonForge Designs product.  Jon really picked the prefect base for this pose!  The cloak sweeping out over the front of it is so neat!

I was glad that I chose to make the cloak black.  While red might have been the most traditional choice, I felt that the darker, cooler color would serve to enhance the brightness of the Red armor.

Given the large sweep of the cloak, there was less competition visually with the base, which also had some of those same greys...

A perfect practice for the Freehand cloak video, since the cloak has the same kind of red... and even the interior design. :-)

  1. That is beautiful. I like the purplish tone to the leather. I always love to see how you tackle space marines.

    2. I love reapers line of drow type flesh tones. Moe is using them on one of his large scale e2046 models right now over at C'MON. Damn. I think i just found a reason to buy more paint...

  2. Absolutely stunning work, the gold in particular is inspiring stuff. I've been experimenting with the whole NMM effect (to admittedly mixed success thus far) so I definitely appreciate such an excellent example to study!

Can't wait to see what's next!

  5. very nice Jim, the free hand is excellent..... not sure how I missed this update, but it is beautifully executed that's for sure. the gun is called a volkite weapon. they are PH death rays so to speak, they are nasty in game terms if your dice cooperate :-) I thought the base and flow of the cape gave it a lot of movement , kind of like hes rounding on someone or in the middle of combat.

    1. I like the dynamism that is already there. Unless you have a specific icon or freehand you would like to include, I think it is very nice as is!
