Side by Side...

As I was working on some other stuff, like the painting green video and gold/brass, I did a few strokes of paint on the Sisters.  Here is another color test figure!

This time around, I did the freehand designs as well, along with some blue woad on the face.

Here is a size comparison with the Raging Heroes Kurgonava Sisters which are part of  my combined I.G./S.O.B army.

The base is roughly the same height here...

Obviously, the GW figure is more bulky, but that is how all GW figures are when compared to everything else.

The Uglies throwing a Birthday party for me yesterday!

  1. I wish some of the naysayers who gripe about Raging Heroes minis being taller than GW Sisters. All I have to say is, if they could see me standing next to my sister, the above comparison would be completely accurate. She is several inches taller than me and towers over me like an Amazon.

    1. Also, pardon my bad grammar in the first sentence. Oops. :P

    2. Who needs grammar, when you have lots of minis!

    3. Being someone that often uses different manufacturer's together, I never really see what is wrong with figures that slightly different heights. After all humans come in all different shapes and sizes.

    4. They sure do... Just in my gaming group, you have a range that goes from barely 5 feet to well over 6 feet!

  2. Happy birthday! there's very few people on the internet who can paint attractive female figures (usually their faces are very ugly) and you are one of the best.

    1. Many thanks for the kind words! The face really is the key thing, as it establishes the whole personality of the mini... especially when they are so tiny!

  3. Hey James thanks for all the links. Cant wait to get my TGG minis. I have a question on some of your earlier blogs specifically the pink foam terrain pieces. Obviously you cannot use spray paint to prime the pieces so what is your method for basing terrain when you have 5+ pieces to base?

    2. I use the acrylic craft paint, since that brushes on very easily. If you check out the posts on the Dark Eldar board, you will see those paints in action!

  4. Happy Be-lated birthday! (Well at least over here in Scotland, I think:D). It's really quite nice to see that the raging heroes miniatures actually fit quite well into a 40k Evil Empire(GW) army. They are almost like the assassins: vindicare, culexus etc etc with their stance and build, tall and thin. I must have a look at the Raging Heroes stuff to see if they have anything I could use for my marines or even a painting comp. Since looking at your stuff it seems quite flexible from being used for Dark Eldar to Imperial Guard.

I too also love the faces, can I ask, when doing the eyes on figures that have eyes the size of pin heads what number of brush do you use. Because at the moment I am painting up some Saga Dark Age Warriors from Gripping Beast and their eyes are so small that even my 3/0 brush can't achieve anything with the slightest of paint. Any tips?

Well thanks for reading this very long comment and any help will be much appreciated, thanks again.

    1. Many thanks! I am glad those were useful!

What helps the most is using liner brushes. The spotters tend to be too short and squat. The liner brushes are designed to carry a decent amount of pigment, but still be nice and tiny!

  5. Amazing paint!

Height comparison shots might work better if the shot was taken at the figures' eye (or waist) levels.

    Ra whanau ki a koe!
    Ra whanau ki a koe!
    Ra whanau ki e James
    Ra whanau ki a koe!

Also lovely painting (as always) but my those Sisters show there age when compared with those Raging gems do they not?
