WIP: A (rapidly) scratch built Deathshrieker rocket launcher: the first layers of paint

Right before my second round of play testing for the Chaos Dwarf Civil War army, I put some paint on a Deathshrieker that I sculpted last week.  You can see the pictures of that piece on an earlier blog posting.

This is essentially what I refer to as a "shaded basecoat".  All I am trying to do here is get a feel for where the colors will be going, and some very rough shading.  Normally, this would be about 20% complete in terms of painting.  In order to match my partner's army, however, I can't put much more on this, lest I create too much of a difference between his army and mine.

In addition, this is a rare use of metallic paints for me.  I took this opportunity to break them out and experiment!  You will see even more of the metallic paints on my Tomb Kings army, as the use of the metallics ties in much better with that army's story.

I used regular paint colors and mixed them in with a generic silver color on my palette.  This allowed me to tint green, blue, reddish, you name it.  That proved to be very entertaining.  I had all these different c olors of metals out there, with various light and dark versions.  The painting was done so rapidly, I could work wet into wet.

So, let's see some images:

  1. Thanks! I was so constrained for time on this piece, I was worried that all the restrictions would make it less fun :-)
