Running on a strong platform

I thought it might be fun to see some of the new Salamander figures with my old scratch sculpted Engine of the Gods, which will now be my Ankylodon battle platform!

The portal section can be removed from the howdah if I am doing the blowpipe version.  I don't know where I have the two pipes that I made for this machine, but they are somewhere.

There are two stands set up for them right behind the head crest.

The Dino is made from sculpey, Apoxy sculpt and green stuff.

It was very fun painting each side of the portal!!!

I used some of the older Skink archer figures as crew, since I had to fit five of them in the howdah, as well as the Skink Priest.

Now for some closer views to see what this looks like next to the heftier Mantic Salamanders.

My original Lizardman army had no Saurus in it at all, as it was meant to be a Temple Restoration crew.  Lots of Skinks, Kroxigors, and the Engines.  Some moved the heavy stuff, while the Skinks restored all the glyphs, etc.

It should be quite the Monster Mash once I have the second Fire Drake finished!  Having three big beasties backing up large Salamander units should be fun.

Of course, I still must find a way to include Stikki Wikkit!

I am quite sure at this stage that I will be using the Firebolt version of the platform, at least to start.

I'll be showing more of the old Lizzies that will be moving on to become part of the Salamander army, so stay tuned!!

Red box...red banner

I have a new unit of Red Box Games that will gradually make an appearance here, starting off with this banner.

All of these elite warriors have hefty armor and fur cloaks.  They would certainly make some interesting figures for a Kings of War army!

Rolling Along

Here's something brand new that just arrived from Green Stuff World!  This is a set of texture rolling pins that I thought would work perfectly with my existing sculpey basing techniques.

The set consisted of Ice/Stone texture, Runic, Celtic Tiles, Deck Plating and Wood planks, along with a plain rolling pin.

Normally I would use my white plain sculpey, but something told me that I needed something a lot stronger.

This type of sculpey is very strong, but is also designed to be very pliable, and accept texture.  It also breaks more cleanly than the pink variety of sculpey.

My other concern was that the sculpey would stick to the pins, especially where the texture was very deep.

I used the plain rolling pin to extend the sculpey piece to the same width as the texture pins.

Once that was ready, I cut the block to a more precise shape.

I grabbed one of the deeper textured pins to see what would happen!!

It rolled right across... no water needed, no need to 'freeze' it in the refrigerator, etc.

This one definitely required the most push to get all the texture to translate.

On to the Deck Plating.  I think this will be very fun in concert with my other sci-fi and steampunk basing techniques.  Since I am effectively rolling out my own sheets, it even makes it practical for covering large swathes of terrain as well!  Very exciting.

I think the Celtic Tiles were my favorite.  It's the one that caught my eye when I first saw the set on the Green Stuff World webstore.  It was also on sale, which meant that it was around $60 with shipping.

The Runes!!  Now this certainly saves some time!!

The first test sheets have been baked, so stay tuned for the next episode when I build some bases with them!  It's gonna be a blast...

Cyber Security

I thought it might be fun to set up some "Glory Shots" with the CyberWolf from Raging Heroes, so here we go!

These first images show the size of the wolf and rider compared to the Kurgonova Sisters, part of the original Toughest Girls of the Galaxy campaign.

The destroyed tank pieces are from Secret Weapon Miniatures, which are among several outstanding bits of battlefield terrain.

Oh no!  The Blood Vestals have threatened the fire base once again!  Good thing the Kurgonovas have some backup.

This wolf is not to be trifled with!!

The Blood Vestals, at the behest of Asharah herself, have the CyberWolf surrounded...

But claw, fang and melta power are on its side.

Leaping from one crater to the next, the Blood Vestals continue to harry the wolf and rider.

I still think it's gonna take more than a few Blood Vestals to bring this guy down!!

I see your point

Yes indeed, more Elves with pointy sticks!

As I have mentioned before, these spear toting elves were essential backup for the swordsmen in front of them.  I ended up spending a few extra points on most of them to give them shields, in case they ended up being too outnumbered to offer just that extra attack.

I didn't face too many horde armies, so that sort of outnumbering didn't really take place.

A Sweet Ride

Some new looks at some old Venoms.  I had to put some trophies on the hull, because that's how I roll :-)

It was really fun to translate the freehand pattern from the smaller infantry style figures to the vehicles.

I think the extra slave girl figures came from Bronze Age miniatures.

The base was fashioned from an unused Forgeworld doorway for a Storm Eagle.

The extra weight of the base acted as a perfect counterweight to the figure itself!
