All hail the King

When I realized I still had this guy sitting around, I had to paint him up using the exact same methods that I used on the classic Reaper Troll which I used making the green skin video!  He's like the supersized version. :-)

All kinds of color transitions on him that don't necessarily show up in the pictures.  Very subtle changes from warm green to cooler greens, some very greyed down to the point of being more brown than green!

The pose and sculpting also allow for some dramatic lighting, which is also fun.  I am going to be painting the Gnoll King, which is very much like this pose.  I painted one so many years ago... I have to give it a try!

He's on ebay right now:

There must be pie somewhere...

Sensing the delicious scent of pie, this little guy is determined to find it!

If you can't stand the heat, look for the kitchen!

The dark rider

Here's an interesting mini from CoolMiniOrNot.  It is referred to as a vampire, so I painted the horse with a bit of an undead look.

I had lots of fun using some purplish reds and muted greens on the skin of the horse.

Those don't necessarily show up in the images, but I even tried to reflect that on the rider and the base as well!

Not another space wolf

Since temps are dropping fast here, why not have a wintry miniature!  This is from the Celtos line, and a darn cool figure at that.  Loads of character, that's for sure.

You may remember the base from the videos... lots of snow and Secret Weapon powders to create it.  I could not resist painting this is in a nice greyish look to go along with that snow.

The dried foliage with a touch of snow also enhanced the effect quite nicely!  As I was painting it, I also felt like I should have a little fun and do a freehand design on the axe blade.

The golds on the staff were far more muted than my usual golds.  The last time I painted this years ago, it was far brighter.

He also happens to be on ebay right now:

Table for two

I have to say, painting the checkered bandanna on this guy really tempted me to paint the cloak on the other sniper as a tablecloth.  Heck, I might still do that!

I never used to put gloss medium on my lenses, but lately that has been pretty fun.  I am not sure that I will continue with that process... a bigger sampling is needed.

Shield 'n Sword

Yes, another Reaper mini, which was just instant purchased on Ebay moments ago... that was cool! :-)

Just like the previous miniature, I did the 'light glaze' technique, which is basically an opaque light colored glaze into midtones and even shadow areas.

The idea is to create a greyed down shade that is semi-transparent.  I do this a lot on the Kickstarter videos... especially those concerning skin tones!

I also did something similar on the metals as well.  This created some nice muted reflections in some areas.

It Takes a Thief

Here's a fun mini from Reaper that I have painted three times, I think.

This time around, it was not too elaborate.  I just wanted to test out a few little techniques on the flesh tones, using 'light washes' of glaze colors mixed with what would be considered highlight colors.

I like doing these light washes, since they give the skin a different feel than the surrounding surfaces such as the hair, etc.
