Back to basing once again, getting ready for the next round of miniatures.
The next set includes more Sisters, and a Commissar. This larger profile base is for a Sisters icon bearer, which I have learned the hard way leans over a lot, even with counterweights. A platform like this will allow me to offset the footprint and get a better center of gravity.
This one is for a Canonness, whose robe will cover up a large portion of the design. So, I tried to keep an open area...
And another view of the set.
For those not familiar with the process, there are dozens of posts about these Sculpey and cork bases in the basing section of the blog.
Cool bases, cracks just awesome
ReplyDeleteThanks! Thanks for checking out the blog as well :-)
DeleteQuick question about the bases with writing or designs on them: Do you have an overall view in mind of what the floor looked like before it was broken up, and paint the bases accordingly, or do you paint a sheet of cork with the design, then break it up for the bases? Or do you just "wing it" with each base?
ReplyDeleteI do try to think about the overall design, but the most important thing is how the figure works with the base.
DeleteI also 'code' my bases, so that I would almost be able to play a game with no minis :-) Certain designs are for special weapons, leaders, and so on.
Hi James. My husband and I bought a set of paintings entitled "Four Seasons" at an outdoor art show in Chicago summer of 1983. We are wondering if you were that 15 year old? If so, you had to paint a new set since those on display were sold. You shipped them to us along with a letter and school picture which I still have. The paintings still hang in our home. Recently our home was on a Christmas tour and the paintings got much attention. Telling this story to the people ignited our interest to find you. Sandra Halley
ReplyDeleteWow! You won't believe this, but I reference that art show all the time. In fact, just in the last few days ! :-)
DeleteI relate that story to let people know how long I have been at this. It is fantastic to have a connection to someone from that fair! Thanks for taking the time to contact me!
