Raging Vestals

I really enjoyed these resin Blood Vestals that were painted as part of the Adepticon 2013 Dark Eldar tournament army.

The original color scheme was more in the red family, but I did a few that would be unit NCO's etc.

A wide variety of bases were made using all kinds of left over 40k bits, including a few vehicle parts.

Old Timer

Here we have an old timey Dark Eldar figure, rescued from the abyss and included in the Adepticon 2013 army.

As some of you already know, I combined a number of the old sprues with some of the new bitz, particularly weapon arms and a few heads.

I discovered that they all fit together nicely, and it allowed me to make may more Kabal Warriors, since I could use the special weapons on the new sprues too.

This classic old head, however, had to be included once or twice!  You can see the rest of the Dark Eldar army, including the massive display board, in the Dark Eldar section of the blog.  Be sure to check it out!

Wyche Trial

Here's another old conversion that I did to create some extra Wyches and Hecatrix Blood Brides for the Dark Eldar army.  I had several old metal Witch Elves sitting around, and adding just a few weapons from the new Dark Eldar sprues did the trick!

The idea was to have a unit that looked very different from the rest of the plastic and resin Wyches, so they would stand out. Plus, it's always fun and interesting to repurpose figures that are this old!

Dark Sister

I did a series of conversions to create Hecatrix Blood Brides for my old Dark Eldar army which were a lot of fun, and worked out pretty easily.  This involved chopping off the hands of a few metal Dark Elf figures, and putting a splinter pistol in their place!

It certainly created the effect that I wanted... they were certainly different from the regular Wyches, but conveyed the feeling they were a good deal nastier.

Blade Runer

Most of the Dark Eldar I have been showing you lately have been the combination of new and old kits.  This time, it's all from the newer sprues.

There are certainly more dynamic poses in the more recent set of Kabal warriors, although this trends towards the 'leaning forward dramatically' style.  To keep them from looking like they are about to fall down, I tried to prop them up a little with the basing.

Those angled chunks on the base were just enough to straighten up the figure, and keep the dynamism of the original pose.

Nightshade

This is another combination of the very old Dark Eldar kits and the more recent set.

As I have mentioned in other posts, this was a great way to extend the life of the newer boxes, since I could save the less numerous legs and torsos for the heavy and special weapons sets.

Doing so gave me a lot more options for building squads down the line, and made for some unique looking figures as well!

Firepower

I don't quite remember which heavy weapon this is from the Dark Eldar arsenal... I'm not sure it ever made into one of my lists.

By doing all the heavy combinations of the old and new kits, like the figures you have seen in previous weeks, I had more of the newer pieces available for specialty weapons such as this.

While all the individual weapons were on the sprues, you would end up short on 'regular' splinter rifles if you made all the special weapons.  Not only did using the old time parts provide half a dozen extra figures per box... they had a little more interest to them as well.

Even here, I could not resist sticking one of the old head crests onto one of these "new" kits :-)

The Acrobat

This very agile Dark Eldar figure was part of my 2013 tournament army at Adepticon .

These bits of terrain were very handy... not just for the basing, but the display board as well.

I had several of these leaping characters dancing around on higher bases such as this.

There was something irresistible about having a pose like this poised on top of the rubble of an Imperial city.

This is heavy!

It's been so long, I forgot that I had done a few heavy weapons for the Dark Eldar army.  I probably never got to use this in an actual game, since I only used the army briefly around Adepticon a few years ago.

This is one of the few Kabal Warriors made entirely from the more recent set of kits, as opposed to all the converted combinations of very old bitz!

Blood and Brides

Here's another fun conversion for the Adepticon Dark Eldar army from a few years back.  I wanted to make a unit of Hexatrix Blood Brides, but I thought they should be much different from the usual Wyche figures.

Fortunately, I had some old Warhammer Fantasy Dark Elf figures around, and all it took was swapping one of the knife hands with a plastic gun hand to do the trick!

Darkest Eldar

This "combo kit" Kabal warrior emphasizes the newer kits over the old sets.  Most of the previous figures have prioritized the use of the original, older sprues.

I certainly didn't expect the two kits to come remotely close  to working together, given how far apart in time they were created, and the differences in design.  The technology involved in making the two kits was certainly very different!

The newer versions had the more dynamic poses, and more clearly defined armor sections, as this guy does.  The weapons were much the same, but the massive variety I ended up with was well worth the effort.  Dozens of these Kabal were done this way, and each one was unique.

One last close up look... but stay tuned for many more!!

Beauty and the Blades

Here's a Dark Eldar figure that had never actually been completed for the original army years ago.  She just needed a base and a few other finishing touches.

I decided to continue the same set of colors as I had done with the rest of the army.  There was a temptation to try a new color set, but I'm glad that I can see how this would have looked with the rest of the minis!

And of course, the Green Stuff World mosaic texture turned out to be just the right treatment.  I'm looking forward to the new rollers that are on their way right now!  They might be here in the next 7 days or so, so stay tuned!
