The Fastest Gun

Here's another one of those Artizan Designs western style figures that I used to augment my WWX collection.  These would be used as civilians or NPC's in certain scenarios.

That is an interesting element to add to any game.  I was thinking about adding this mechanic to Bolt Action games, as time after time refugees would clog the few passable roads in the countryside of various fronts.

This guy was a fun exercise in contrasting a somewhat more saturated sienna colored vest with more muted cool colors.  Even the white shirt is considered one of these cool colors.

The Colonel

I have a handful of Artizan Designs Wild West minis, and each one has plenty of character.  This one reminded me so much of Colonel Sanders, I could not resist this particular color scheme.

As with all limited palette exercises, maximizing mid tones is very important.  This is where you can tint colors the most, such as a grey that is more tan, or more greenish, etc.  Mixing a light flesh tone with a dark grey or even a black will get you a far different tone than mixing black with a sky blue, for instance.

I attempted to get some yellows into the mix as well, especially on the hat.  You can see even more of the blueish grey on the pants, although there is also some greenish grey.  A similar set of light and dark shades were done on the base.

One of the five "color theory" videos I did as part of the kickstarter focused on grey, showing how 'grey' can be more purple, blueish, yellowish, and so on.  And yes, it was called Shades of Grey.  I will have that at Reapercon along with the rest of the video collection.

Taming the West

Here's a fun miniature from Artizan Miniatures.  We used to have these represent our characters and the NPC's in our Deadlands adventures.

Some of you might recognize the color scheme from my Lawmen.  I'm not sure why I liked the white coats so much, but I thought it would be very fun.

I have also used him as a civilian in our games of Wild West Exodus.  I believe his name was Clyde.

Call the Marshall!

Hey there, partner, where do ya think yer goin' with that big sack 'o cash?  Time to get the Marshall to look into this!

This is one of our original Deadlands figures, which I believe is from Artizan Miniatures.

I couldn't resist putting the little tree in the base!

Searching for Red Gold!

Meet Crazy Louie, a well known prospector in the town of Wappelville.

Only the Enemy knows his true identity, but the townsfolk believe that he's been exposed to the Red Gold just a little too long!

With nothing more than his shovel and pick axe, he is constantly on the prowl for new veins of the mysterious red substance.

I am pretty sure that this figure is from Artizan Miniatures.  It's something I used for Deadlands years ago.

And, of course, he goes quite well with the Wild West Exodus RJ-1027 mining carts!

I am really looking forward to having this in our next WWX game.  Stay tuned for that battle report!!!

There you have it.  Now, where could Crazy Louie have gotten off to this time?  He's never around when the Holy Order are in town...

Should you want to try out some OSL of your own, I do have a video which shows my approach:

Three Amigos, Artizan style.

I believe this set of figures are Artizan Miniatures version of the Earp brothers.

Since they are a smaller scale then the usual Wild West Exodus figure, it will be very easy to distinguish them from the actual posse members.

I am still working up the rules for these deputies, and the kind of triggers needed to activate them in a given scenario.

I thought it would be appropriate to paint a few of them in white coats, just like the WWX counterparts.

Seems like Wyatt is leading the way.

Stay tuned for more from Artizian, as I was able to add a Pony Express rider, and some 'regular' 7th Cavalry miniatures!

Shadow Deputy

Another fun deputy from Artizan Miniatures.

Serving the Lawmen of Wappelville as they attempt to bring order to the Wild West!

Bobbies!

As you have already seen several times, I want to use these Artizan Miniatures western figures as NPC deputies for our Wild West Exodus games.

When we do scenarios such as the huge brawl in the massive gaming hall, these additional figures will increase the mayhem even more!!

It gets cold in the Wild West

Time for an Outlaw NPC, adding to the total of gun toting civilians for our Wild West Exodus games.

There are more Outlaw NPC's on the way as well!

It's Colonel Sanders!

This was one of the more humorous Artizan miniatures.  I instantly thought of Colonel Sanders.

He will make a very interesting civilian for our Wild West Exodus games!  We might have to create a chicken shack!

Don't shoot the Deputy

One more of the Artizan civilians today.

As I mentioned in the previous post, we have been focusing more on civilians to enhance the mayhem in our Wild West Exodus games.  The unique rules of these civilians mean that the battlefield is constantly changing around you.

The more the merrier!!

Gun toting civilians

One of our favorite aspects of Wild West Exodus is the impact that civilians have in the game.  They can block movement, line of sight, or even step on land mines!  If you don't think I'm serious... this has actually happened in a game.

You can shoot them, and even grab them to use as mobile cover.

I have been experimenting with other elements, such as moving objectives kike a her of horses, the famous zombie attack game, and so on.

These figures are kept to a slightly smaller scale than the WWX minis, so that it's easier to tell them apart.  You have seen a number of Reaper miniatures used in this way, but now I have a string of Artizan miniatures from their Tombstone series.

This guy is one of a few "deputies" which are brought onto the table via a trigger.  That is, accomplish this objective or task, and you get these additional deputies.

They would not have the same stats or capabilities as the 'real' Lawmen, but still a threat.  Obviously, killing them gives the opponents VP's as well.  We do the reverse for the Outlaws.  These really enhance the game, as you can't custom fit a list to an opponent, since you will have to worry about moving objectives, and additional NPC's coming onto the table in the middle of the game!
