OK! Day one is over. My first 40k tournament in all the years I have been doing Adepticon.
The goals of the day were to get the Demonhunters (yes, I will always call them that!)out on the table, and play against other amazing painted armies. Also, learn a lot, and have some fun games, talk lots of hobby stuff, see lots of other super painted armies, and in general get to hang out.
YES! All of the above. By far the most fun I have ever had at a tournament. Not even close :-) Four really fun games, starting with Thomas and his nifty Necrons...
You will be seeing more of the pictures I took of his army, I believe, and I will be passing along his info to anyone who needs fantastic laser etching work! He does amazing work, such as the scratch built Monolith!
Like this...
Me foolishy assaulting the Monolith:
Flamestorm gets to toast some toasters..
Inquisitor Reva gets to kill stuff:
Old timey flying lounge chairs:
Here are some images of Game 2 against space wolves:
And Game 3 against Dark Eldar, which was good, since this is the army I am making for next year! Will be getting lots of advice from this player as I move ahead with that!
Termies look to get in the action:
The Chimera sees what happens when the electrical fence in Brookfield zoo goes down...
And Game 4 against Brent from Bell of Lost Souls! So Cool! Lots of hobby talk, and good times ensued. Looking forward to doing some things for BOLS at some point. Super fun game, super relaxed, and a great way to wrap up the tournament.
Pics:
Reva gets to assault again
The termies run to the glowy conduit...
Then there comes that time where you have to pack everything up...
So, there was one final mission to achieve. I had hopes that I might be able to pull out a paintig award. There were 246 armies entered, and there was tons of incredible and ingenious work. I was tied in the voting for Player's Choice, which was amazing! Thanks to everyone who punched "I" for Inquisition.
Last but not least, I did manage to get that best Painted! Here is Oliver, the Inquisitorial War Monkey, claiming the prizes as his own...
A collection of images that feature my painted miniatures. It features many of my award winning figures and terrain pieces painted since 2001.

Congrats Sir on a most deserved win. Your Daemon Hunters are 'mind-blowing' right down to the army board and objective markers (which are going in the, that’s an awesome idea file btw).
ReplyDeleteMy Wife thinks Oliver is cute & is now suggesting I have a 'cuddly' mascot accompany me on hobby expeditions.
Thanks! I think if you check out some of the past Adepticon pictures on their website, you will see Oliver at one of our painting seminars with brush in 'hand' showing how it's done. The legend started from there :-)
ReplyDeleteCongrats!
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to painting the vast horde of assembled Dark Eldar for 2013!!
ReplyDeleteI'll be interested to see your interpretations of the Dark Eldar!
ReplyDeleteThe concept is that the army (mostly jetbikes) is actually a gang of racing teams. They are attacking this particular planet due to its very nifty hippodrome! They would love to race in it! Winners get the (slave)girls.
ReplyDeleteJim: I loved seeing you play this army as I drooled over your Land Raiders when I first saw them last year (Or was it the year before?). Taken your basing classes and always found you one of the nicest people in the hobby.
ReplyDeleteI want to feature your Demonhunters army on my blog:

May I use your photos in addition to the ones I took?
Alec
Hello! Many thanks for the kind words! Thanks for the feature on the blog, which is a very cool one, BTW! I will have to check it out often! Feel free to use what you need :-)

Thank so much! I found it by accident about an hour ago! Thanks for putting so much time into that, because I know posts with lots of images can take quite a while to put together.
ReplyDeleteI will have to refamiliarize myself with my gadgets and create a link back to you :-)
Jim, can you send me your email so we can chat? I am at
