More fun with Marneus.

Remember when I said I had sliced and diced that very solid and very pewter Marneus Calgar figure for 3 different conversions?  Here is the second one!

I do like the way it turned out though.  Lots of bits, lots of pinning, lots of green stuff (which is almost entirely hidden.  I don't have the WIP images of this (probably because I was also trying to smash my face into a wall at the same time!)

I think the next one does have WIP images of the converting process.

A close up of the base...

Who put this here?

Darn cannons keep blasting all the pillars.  Busts those buggers up, and we keep tripping over them!

Talk about running with scissors.

More fun with Sky Earth Non Metal Metallics!  As I have mentioned on the previous posts, I have had a lot of fun painting this effect with different colors.  For instance, most of the blades have mixtures of purplish gray, blue grey, sky blue, a bit of off white tinted yellow, muted greens... and even some yellow here and there if the hat feather is close enough!

Sort of like this fellow. :-)

The next conversion

OK, we continue with that converted Grey Knight terminator squad from years past.

As I look at these again for the first time in a long time, I remember how much I learned in the process of converting and resculpting them.

Just like the rest of the squad, I took a regular space marine, added length to the legs and arms, the extra armor, and so on.

These guys required a number of layers.  I had to do one area, leave it alone, and move on to the next guy as that one set up.  Then I used green stuff to do all the lettering and finer details.

And here he is painted!  Heck, I remember how my painting techniques were only just beginning to move in the direction in which they have progressed since then.

While these guys were painted in a huge rush to be ready for Games Day, I know that my current techniques could have done the job in half the time...

Something fun for the last Drow

OK... this concludes the series of Drow on the lava bases.  It has been a blast.  As I have mentioned before, these were used as practice and test figures for many different video topics.

Painting Lava bases, Freehand, Drow skin, and so on!

I wanted to do something very different with this banner, so I went with my usual pattern that I had also painted on the skulls.

Oh yeah, and this was also a test for the Vallejo Fluorescent paints!

Spring flowers?

My goodness... they are talking about temperatures above 30 degrees next week.  I will have to put the air conditioners in!!  The snow will melt... catastrophe!

Sorry about that.  It has been a very strange week.  Essentially flipping my daily schedule by 12 hours instantly has me feeling like I just took a trip half way around the world.

O.k., this was an interesting old figure.  I think it is a classic Julie Guthrie sculpt.  I used the Army Painter Meadow Flowers for the first time.  That is so much nicer to use than the previous brands of flowers, where it was essentially a brillo matt that had to be torn off the mass and glued to the base.  It was never very convincing, and certainly not easy to use.

This stuff was so easy to use, and it looks quite nice.  I wanted to have a splash of bright color on this, since everything else was so muted.  The little flowery bits sat up on the top of the tufts perfectly.  Heck, there are even two different color in the same package!  Very cool.

Those darn squiggly swords

Yes, another squiggly sword to work on.

The mob continues to grow.  There are a bunch I have not even taken pictures of yet :-)

More to come!

Fun with Secret Weapon washes

Hey folks... snapped some images while I was painting a ton of minis the last few days...

I was utilizing my set of Secret Weapon washes, having some fun along the way!

You can see a few disks being used as a palette... those were the "Oh crap... hit the wrong button!" disks which are now being recycled. :-)  I put about 7 or 8 wash colors on the palette, and went to town.

I had Heavy body black, Armor wash, baby Poop, Ruby, Green black, Stone, and so on.  It is a lot of fun to mix them together, especially on Nurgle stuff like this.

As I have mentioned before, a few of the wash colors have that very nice opaque quality, such as concrete and Stone.  When you mix those with the other more intense, transparent washes, you get some fun results!

I also like to mix these in with regular paints, which creates interesting results.

They were perfect for items such as the banner.

Again, some of the colors are quite intense, but the more muted tones are perfect to mix in, instead of thinning them with water.  Mixing those intense wash colors with very light 'regular' paints make excellent semi-transparent colors to use on skin for subtle transitions.

It gets pretty messy with my 'Paint and Remove' method.  I like to splash on more than needed, and then use my finger of paper towel to remove that excess.

I use these washes a lot on the painting videos.  They were very handy on so many of the various subjects.
