Let it snow... let it snow.

Sorry for the delay folks!  Continuously shoveling snow here.  More to come as well, so I am geraing up to go shovel some more!

Then it will be a cozy -15 for the low.

Should be fun!  A number of things being worked on, including more of the Nurgle Rotters.  Three more almost about to join these three guys.

Also, a big batch of Empire Greatswords.  Images of the first figs coming this weekend.

The rotters coming up are Lizard, High Elf and 'undead'...

Slugfest!!!

Here they come!

Off to prison and the Chain Gang...

Here we have the next installment from Victoria Miniatures!  This batch is called the Penal Guard.

This set of 10 makes an excellent Penal Legion squad.  As usual there are 10 figures in all, with many different options.
First, the legs:

There are a few torso options, including a few for leaders/command.

A number of 'lasgun' options...

Then more heads, some shivs, and other items!

There were many ways to put these together, but I wanted to use the helmet version on one figure:

Chain gang!  Get a move on!

And then a few shots of the whole squad.

I didn't do anything to the figures themselves except file mould lines, wash them off and glue them together.  So, this really represents them right out of the package.

Finally, some images of the individual prisoners.

I am trying to decide if I want to go the orange jump suit route, or more 'standard' ripped up Guard uniforms.

These guys would make a fantastic addition to any Imperial Guard army.

Happy New Year Blog!!!!

OK loyal Wappellians!  We ring in the New Year with post number 1702!!

As always many thanks to all of you who take time out of your day to explore the madness that is my world.

I can't stress often enough that none of this happens without you.  It still amazes me that anybody wants to keep listening to my wild rantings :-)  Hopefully some of it ends up being useful.

So many things are planned for this new year.  As much of a transition as 2013 was, I believe that 2014 will eventually complete that transition and lead to so much more.  Very hard work still awaits... and this first part of the year is going to be quite a challenge... but knowing the goal could be attained keeps me scrapping for that extra yard!

All hail the King

Finally!  The Gnoll King from Reaper Miniatures.

Once more, fun with muted browns, reds, and greens.  Let a little more green show here... even a little purple there...

Even a touch of blueish gray in places.  Since he is pretty huge, there were plenty of areas for fun subtle transitions.  I also had to add the blood, to get in a nice accent color, and something that was a bit more high chroma, or saturated.

As usual, lots of eays to establish contrast!

More slime...

Back to the Nurgle guys once again.  This time, another rotter.

This is one of the rare beastman rotters... there are many more of all races.  Those will be coming up later this week!

Lots more of these slug bodies to paint...

Here he is with his buddy.

Sluggin' on!

You look a little green...

Here's a collection of figures with a variety of green flesh colors.  Three of them were part of the kickstarter videos.

The two Reaper Trolls were used for the Painting Green Flesh Tones video.  The Raging Heroes Ork Warboss was used for the Shaded Basecoat video.

As you look at these, you will notice that the color varies here ans there.  Some greens are warmer, some are cooler.  Also, some of the greens are very muted, or "grayed down".  That can be done by mixing in some red or brown.

Other colors are more pure, or 'saturated'  This is discussed a lot, especially in the Green With Envy color theory video concerning greens.

It does not really matter what the size of the figure is, or what type it is... making more variations in those green flesh colors can make anything seem more elaborate or interesting.

I try to have transitions in the color across a single figure.  The trolls are a very good example of that.  You get the whole range of warmer and cooler greens, as well as the more muted colors on the back.

Mixing in purple of one shade or another with the green also yields some interesting results!  That is a favorite trick of mine.

This is just a drop in the proverbial bucket when it comes to greens and skin tones made with them.  Hopefully this gives you a few ideas!
