Using the bases

Ok... you finally get to see the other base with a mini on it!

This very cool Reaper mini was on the list for a number of videos.  Freehand cloaks, flesh tones, even yellows (obviously).  In the end, it was used for the Object Source Lighting video.

I had lots of fun working the various yellows, orange, browns and reds.  With the ground cover and even the tufts working in that same color range, I knew that keeping everything in harmony would be relatively easy.

On the flip side, however, that meant creating contrasts would be slightly more difficult.  That had to be done through value contrasts and saturated vs unsaturated versions of colors placed opposite of each other.

Thanks again to Mr.Justin for his fantastic broken columns!

    1. Thanks! Yellow is one of those colors that I have to remember to use in large quantities, instead of blue, green, red, etc. :-)

  2. Fantastic work as usual, the flakes worked out so well as leaves on the base. I have a question, when you attach the miniatures to the bases, do you simply glue them on or do you pin them in?

    1. Thanks! I always pin the miniature, since I use that to attach it to a dowel rod for painting!

    2. Cool. I wanted to see what you did as I'm going down the painting the base and model separately road myself for a bit.

    3. For me, it is much easier on my hands, and it is WAY easier to get to the hard to reach spots on the mini! :-)

    4. No kidding, bases are 100 times easier to do. My fear of painting the base under robed miniatures is a thing of the past.

  3. Breathtaking! I especially like how you worked the flesh and hair on this character.

    1. Thanks! Flesh tones can be tricky with an overall yellow scheme such as this...
