The Wings of Angels

For those of you who have been following the blog for a number of years, you have already seen the introduction of the Angels Solarus, a Blood Angels splinter chapter, which was painted a few years ago.

In addition to the horde of infantry created for this army, I also painted numerous vehicles and dreadnoughts.  I believe there were three Forgeworld speeders, two Baal Predators, six dreadnoughts, and five dreadnought drop pods.  Oh yeah, and a Stormraven!

Apparently this post was created but never actually posted!

The format might be a little crazy, but that's because I was using different settings at the time.

There are even more dreadnoughts which were part of this massive project!

The color transitions were especially challenging on the dreadnoughts!

There are also a number of Death Company vehicles, including a dreadnought drop pod.

Still out for Blood

Another Forgeworld marine... and another Blood Angel.

This guy goes with the apothecary I posted the other day.

And that means that it's time to get back to work!

Blood Angels this time! :-)

Blood Angel character finished!

OK!  Here are the finished pics.  As I mentioned in the step by step post, this was an unusual piece in terms of the armor pattern.  The weapon was also something I had not seen before.  Sort of par for the course on Pre Heresy :-)

The base is another DragonForge Designs product.  Jon really picked the prefect base for this pose!  The cloak sweeping out over the front of it is so neat!

I was glad that I chose to make the cloak black.  While red might have been the most traditional choice, I felt that the darker, cooler color would serve to enhance the brightness of the Red armor.

Given the large sweep of the cloak, there was less competition visually with the base, which also had some of those same greys...

A perfect practice for the Freehand cloak video, since the cloak has the same kind of red... and even the interior design. :-)

Blood Angels in progress...

As I was working on the freehand cloak video, I used this guy to "get in the groove", so to speak.

Here are a few pictures that I shot as I was working on it.  The huge cloak was obviously an opportunity to do some serious freehand. :-)

A little love in the pages of White Dwarf!!!!

Hey, look what showed up in the pages of the White Dwarf this month!  Besides Hobbits and Dark Angels, that is...

One of my Golden Demon winning entries!  This was my Silver Demon Warhammer 40k Squad.  Some Sanguinary guard!!  Very cool.  Hopefully the Gold NMM video will help people get closer to painting their Sanguinary guard the same way!

A little note on this group... the display plaque was painted with several layers of magnetic primer.  This allowed me to put some magnets on the bases, thus keeping my jump marines from jumping off the plaque to their doom!!

This year, I also won a Silver Demon in the Fantasy Monster category for my Carnosaur.  To make things even better, John managed to get some past trophies sorted out for me, so I came home with an extra Silver and Bronze Demon!

We just got home a little while ago, and Cathy has been working to get the brand new machine in working order.  Some things have been easy, others not as much.  As you have heard me mention many times the last few days, this is what we are hoping to use to create the sample videos.

The production versions will have to be made once we can get the Primary Desktop unit upgraded.

As I have mentioned in previous posts, this was not the easiest color scheme to paint on any of the miniatures, but all the vehicles were even more challenging!

Forgeworld Blood Angels Rapier

Here's the latest, hot off the presses!  It was certainly interesting to do this in colors that were not Imperial Fists!  I really enjoy painting the same things in different color schemes.  The challenge is fun, and it is a blast to compare two of them next to each other.  I will post some of those soon.



The bases are Dragonforge, by the way.  Very high quality bases... probably the best casting quality you will find.
