Making a Splash

I absolutely love the RN Estudio Blood Bowl miniatures (there are also non Blood Bowl figures as well!), and this is another great example.

This was painted during a few recent hangouts, and it was very fun.  All of the miniatures from the team are very well sculpted and cast with excellent quality resin... minimal mould lines too!

The purple to turquoise transition is also a favorite.  With all the muscles sculpted into it, there were even more opportunities for those transitions.  All of the details are very sharp, which is very handy!  They are also very "compact" and sturdy for resin figures, which means they are reasonably viable to a rough and tumble game like Blood Bowl!!

The water effects were quite simple, using the Liquitex Heavy Gloss Gel.  It was built up in multiple layers, which allowed me to "extend" the splashes a bit more with each layer applied.

I have done this on a number of figures, and on bases as waterfalls, etc.

Holding the Line

As some of you already know, I love the figures created by RN Estudios for their Blood Bowl teams, along with a variety of other fantasy figures.

The casts are always very clean and solid, just like this Lizardman figure.

The vast majority of the figures are one piece, and mould lines are minimal.  They are also very easy to prime.  Badger Airbrush Stynlrez primer is outstanding for this purpose.

The base is relatively simple, in keeping with the swamp bases of the rest of the team.  I used some Secret Weapon Miniatures Realistic Water mixed with a touch of greenish brown paint.  A few layers of this combination helped to achieve a 'depth' to the water.

The sharp and precise details not only look great, but they make painting these so much easier!  It allows me to do all kinds of fun glazing techniques, utilizing the details of the figure.

When working on 'fuzzier' casts and sculpts, things get more protracted since I actually have to paint in all those details myself.

Fear the Orcs

Time to meet some fearsome Orcs on this college football Saturday!  These guys will certainly reach the playoff... perhaps by simply scaring their opponents off the field.

These are high quality resin sculpts, and they usually have very little prep work involved.  Nearly all of them are just one piece, which also means that they will be very sturdy and hold up to the rigors of playing Blood Bowl.

This is a star player, or he could be used as a Black Orc with a bunch of SPP's.

Rumble in the Jungle!

Let's get back to the Jungle with another wonderful figure from the Lizardman team that RN Estudios sent to me.  The figures were sculpted by Txarli Miniatures.

Here's another Saurus, done in that traditional turquoise color scheme.

This was done with a lot of glazing and tinting over an very light teal color.  Even the darkest purple areas were done by repeated glazes of the Reaper Clear paints... mixing the blue and purple together.

The Reaper clear paints make a fantastic glaze, as you can thin them down with water without worrying that they will break up in consistency... and they dry to a wonderful matte finish.  They also have a lot of pigment, so they leave behind a wonderful tint.

There are a number of colors in that set of clear paints... red. magenta, blue, green, yellow and purple.  I really love them!

I even mix them with other glaze colors from Vallejo and Secret Weapon.

Jurassic Park

Yes, they play Blood Bowl in the jungle too!  This time around, we see one of the Saurus.

All the fine details cast so perfectly, it makes these guys a blast to paint!!

I continued with the same swamp style of basing, which lets me combine the bright colors with the subtle browns and tans.

For the rest of the players, I will continue with the reddish tones on any cloth or metal/armor surfaces.

Running in for the score!!

From RN Estudios, we have the first of the painted Lizardman Blood Bowl team.  

They are sculpted by the talented folks at Txarli Miniatures.

This is one of the skinks.  I went with a more traditional color scheme on him.

I thought that I would do something fun with the base, making a water splash under his foot!

Orcs on the Field!!

Let's start with the biggest of the big... the baddest of the bad.  Mr Troll!

No Orc team is complete without Black Orcs!!

How about some blitzers!!

I still like to toss the ball around, even when I'm playing Orcs, so I gotta have some throwers...

And then there's those old reliable linemen... or should I say cannon fodder!  Don't let them know...

Pesky little Goblins to hop over the line, sneak through a gap with the ball, or perhaps toss a bomb!  That outta clear a space!

This team is not without some serious star power, represented by these lads.

Just like the Lizardman team from a week ago, these are extremely well sculpted and cast!  It's very easy to prep them, with minimal mould lines and minimal individual parts.  In fact, nearly all of them are one piece casts, which is ideal for blood bowl!

Things get rough out there on the field, so we don't need lots of dainty pieces!!  Give these guys a try!

Leaping Lizards!!

More new stuff for you... this time, something for all us Blood Bowl fans!!!

I've played this game since at least the early 90's, and it's amazing to see all the fantastic new figures that are being created for our beloved game.

Thanks to RN Estudio, the Baton Rouge Lethal Lizards shall rise again, with their impressive array of Saurus, Skink, Krox and star players!!

These images show the actual figures, which are wonderfully cast in white resin.  The mould lines are absolutely minimal, and they are almost all one piece casts.

That's very important in this kind of game, where the figures take a beating in more ways than one.  The resin is resilient, and a very nice silky texture for painting.

Primed and ready for paint!  I am going to go back to the very beginning for me, and paint this like my original team.  This means that each player will be painted with different colors and markings.

I will see if I can find some of those original images, so that I can match them with these newest versions.  I am also looking forward to using lots of jungle vegetation, and some splashing swampy water.

 I will have to come up with an especially cool scheme for this big guy!  Definitely splashing water on the base as well...

The big guys are well designed, in that they are not so enormous that there is no room to place them in all the middle of the pitch scrums that will inevitably follow!
