Here's a few views of some Vindicators I painted a while back. It was very interesting, as I had to use metallic paints to match previous stuff they had painted.
That was really the biggest challenge.

I'm curious as to why using normal metallic colours would be harder than NMM? Surely you can use the same techniques?
ReplyDeleteSince my training is as a watercolor /pastel artist, I never used metallics. For me, it required an entirely new way of thinking and painting. :-)
DeleteI definitely can't wait to get my hands on the upcoming video tutorials, but I have to ask, how to you get such smooth coats and transitions? Is it mainly a matter of consistency in the paint and layer after layer of intermediary glazes? I've been working on getting smooth blends for a while, and I've achieved it a couple times, but I just can't get it to work consistently, even with the same mixing formulas.
ReplyDeleteFor me, the key is working more rapidly with bigger brushes. Since my training is as a watercolor painter, etc., working with the larger brushes is second nature.
DeleteWorking with the bigger brushes lets you cover a large space, and you 'dab' at the surface less. You have to work in broader strokes, thus creating a cleaner, smoother look.
I also do lots of glazing, and that is helpful as well!

ReplyDeleteHi there! These were painted a number of years ago, so I can't remember exactly what it was called. It wasn't regal blue... I think Enchanted Blue :-)
