Dark Elf Hydra on sculpted bases
While it was not so much fun assembling the old style hydra and all its metal parts, I really enjoyed painting this piece. The marble base was done during the height of my "Marble Phase".
The bases are made from cork and sculpey. The cork is your bottom layer. The baked sculpey (rolled out in a thin sheet) is set on top of the cork, and then you can carve in your tiles and textures with a scribing tool.
Sand and gravel is added in gaps and to ad strength to the sculpey sheet on top.
After Adepticon, when I get more time, I want to create a 'how to' hobby page on the blog with a few descriptions of these techniques.
Wow, I had to comment on this work. The hydra is amazing -- I have that model, never painted it because the studio scheme never inspired me back in the day. This makes it look incredible! Wonderful site, glad I stumbled across it, very inspirational work! :)
What specifcally do you use to scuplt your bases? And how do you use it?
ReplyDeleteThat model is smoking hot! The hydra is amazing. All the underlighting effects look great. Bravo sir!
